I have 07 Xterra and today my AC has completely gone out. Prior to today the sys for the last week and half would take about 10 mins to cool after sitting in the sun all day in S. AL (so it is hot). However once it would start cooling it would blow cold air and would stay cold.

I took it to the shop today, they hooked up the hoses that check to the A/C sys and 10 min later said my compressor is gone and I am looking at about $1300 to repair it.

What will those gauges read if the compressor is gone and Are they any other places to look at before I drop 1300 to repair it?

You should google this AC problem.... it's amazing how many of us have the same problem! I've had the same issues with my xterra for a year + and the mechanics just want to replace hoses and recharge. I haven't tried this myself but am going to... it's call a thermo amplifier and it ranges from $30-$50 and you can put it in yourself. I'm tired of throwing money to replace hoses that are leaking when it seems there is something else wrong. Don't know if it'll work.. works for some not for others but i thought this summer I'm going to try something else and cheaper!

Hope this helps.
