Hi , i have a 98 4cyl Automatic Frontier,2 wheel drive with Trani Problems.Just Purchased, so i don't know the History.PROBLEM BEING....it drives in Park and there's no reverse.Could not tow backwards to turn it around when running, wheels would just skid as it was pulled.When truck was shut off....it would free wheel in 1st gear backwards though.Will Drive in Drive position Fine. and maybe some of the other gears.Can do some re-checking on that.I can't remember what it was doing right off hand.
~DiD do a Fluid Change~ Still does the same though.
I checked into the Linkage arm and clicked through the Gears from the underside when i pulled the Pan.*Fluid was Brown/red and may have been burnt a Little bit.
I found a 97 Frontier and that i was WONDERING if that Trani will interchange with my 98.I really like the Truck , and but as i read on through this Forum and anothers, it Pretty much sounds like these *Transmission were ~Crap~

Should mention, this is my First Nissan Truck.
As far as matching #'s off the doors.I don't have the Parts Truck hear yet and have'nt gone to take a look.
I do have PDF files Manuals though for the 97 D21 and for the 98 Frontier.To compare between them.Looks like the 97 #s appear to be: Model RL4R01A and Model Code =s 49x10.Where as the #s for the 98 Frontier, according to the Service manual are: Model RL4R01A (same as the 97) but Model Code =s 49x11.Not sure whats up with that....?
Will go look on my door too though as well.

Just checked.....and ES5 C RL4R01A on Door Jam Tag. on my 98 right here. Can i pick somebodies brain that owns a 97, with a 4 cyl and Auto trans please ,for their #s off their truck and or any inputs or ideas on what may be going on with my trans. Thank you in advance all....
