Hello everyone,

I have a 98 pathfinder SE 3.3L and I have noticed recently that upon a cold start, the idle is unusally high.

In the past, when I would start the car, the idle would go to 1100 to 1200 rpms before coming back down to about 700 rpm range, but now, when I start the car, the rpms go up between 1500 to 1700 and it takes a lot longer before dropping again.Even when the rpm drops after warmup, it drops to about 900 to 1100 range.

Can anyone tell me why the rpms may be up all of a sudden at both cold starts and after the car has warmed up.

Try having the throttle body cleaned it may be carboned up holding the throttle plate slightly open.

I cleaned the throttle body not too long ago due to a pedal sticking problem, but maybe some residue is causing the throttle plate to not close all the way. I'll try cleaning it again over the weekend.

Thanks

you may also need to do a base idle adjustment. warm it up to op temp. Shut it off unplug the tps. Restart it and set the idle to the desired setting with the idle screw on the passenger side near the rear of the intake near the bottom.
