I need to replace my ignition switch. A friend said that most switches have a small hole through which a sturdy paper clip is inserted to release the switch for removal. The 97 I30 has no such hole. How do I remove/replace the ignition switch?

My searches of current and archives here have not yielded the answer.

I'm not sure yet whether I will be replacing both the locking mechanism and the electrical switch or just one of these items. So if you can share info on removing/replacing both it will be appreciated.

Also, will re-keying and/or reprogramming the keyless remote be required for either procedure?

Thanks!

I really don't know on the I30, but on the Q, there's a U - shaped bracket that holds the switch to the steering column. The bracket is installed with sheer-head bolts - so after you torque them down the head breaks off. This is a security feature. You have to drill the bolts out.
