i'll upload a youtube video tommorow so yall can hear and see what i mean. I have a 99 Q45t that had power steering leaks and noises when i bought it and i had just got the power steering pump and a few hoses replaced, I started hearing a loud screech whenever i would go full lock left or right. I drove about 200+ miles to try and break in the new pump, but ended up getting the car impounded for 30 days, 3 days after i got the repairs done. I picked my car up today and the wheel was super hard to turn like i didn't even have a pump and it was screeching any time i tried to turn while it was cold/sitting still. once i got moving the noise went away but i'm assuming that's becuase the pump does not need to work as hard during highway/normal driving.

Also, the tow yard employee didn't know my car was rwd and lifted it from the front axle and dragged it on the rear tires for about three feet and now i have a flashing airbag light. going to get the codes scanned later this week and see what it could potentially be, anyone have any experience w flashing airbag lights or having your car dragged on the rear wheels while its in park? smh

If it's only screeching at the locks then very likely the drive belt is loose.

Yep , and if so best to put a new quality belt (Dayco ,Goodyear ,Gates) yours probly glazed and when quiet and tough steering it was completely slipping loose I betcha. And don't forget to brakleen ALL the pulleys that ps belt rides , clean them grooves ,and w/proper tension you'll probly be fine .

Not sure if the quality of the belt is the issue as i got a continental one for my mechanic to install and he installed it with a new pump and some hoses, and told me it might leak a little bit and make noise the first week but if it continues after that to come back and he'll take a look at it. Here's the video anyways https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBjvrCvH4cc

If you have a helper 'work' that wheel so you can look yourself under the hood , a slipping belt CAN actually be seen jittering & slipping to naked eye at idle . But wow , it's always the pits when the car isn't the same coming back from a shop ,ya.
Try a smartfone video as you watch it jittering ? IF you're in fact discover this,a video can show mechanic , you don't get a 'surprise' billing for them looking ALL OVER other stuff!

What a Shaggatrocity of a mechanic you found ....Batman ! :rotflmao Don't let mechinc say it's your Shaggatronics gone bad :lolling:

I'd say the tow truck operator needs to have your airbag light fixed. That could get expensive really quick.

It doesn't matter why your car was impounded - they don't get a free pass to mess up your car. Not knowing it's real wheel drive isn't an excuse.

i wish this was the case but after dealing with LAPD's s*** and red tape and the hassle it was to get my car back in the first place (wasnt registered), I doubt there is anything i'll be able to do in regards to getting the tow yard to fix it. It sucks here in socal for cars, they don't care at all.

Also in regards to macgiver, The car is in the shop as we speak and hopefully my mechanic will honor the work he did before and fix the power steering, if not i'll have a friend turn the wheel and i'll take a look at the belt. as you said might just need to be tightened up.

Oh, there are ZFG given about cars here too. Probably why I have subconsciously relegated mine to garage queen status.

I guess it depends on if it was an actual LAPD tow truck that towed it to a city impound lot, or if it's like they do around here, and the police just have a private tow truck that impounds it in their yard. It also depends on your tolerance for fighting about it. I'd spend a month arguing over a nickel. :D

Either way I'm glad you got your car back.

Maybe the airbag light will be an easy fix. I'd start with trying to reset it or read codes. There should be a no scanner required method to read the error code in the factory service manual for your Q, which is available under the "Service Manuals" link on the banner at the top of this page.

My mechanic did honor the work and fixed the power steering for free, threw a new belt in again and re-tensioned it and the screeching is gone completley, now you can hear the pump whining a little bit and he said he will look at it when i take the car back in. I have it back for a few days because i tried to get it smogged, and was turned down because of a CEL for P1105 MAP/BARO solenoid switch and the idle flucuates from 670-1150 in park when the car is warm. I took the car into my mechanic and he had it for a few days, said he cleared the codes and that my issue was the egr valve/system and that they dont make them for my car anymore and hes gonna have his engine specialist come and take a look at it, but in the meantime to drive the car for 200 miles or until the check engine light comes on, whichever happens first. Yesterday after about 100 miles i was parked outside a friends house in neutral waiting for him to come outside and I noticed my TCS light, SLIP light, and CEL turned on all at once. turned the car off and on and they went away for a few minutes before coming back. after turning the car on and off about 10 times and 30 minutes of driving, they TCS and SLIP lights went away but not the CEL. Scanned it with my homies scanner and now its throwing P1320 "Manufacturer control". when the car is running my MAP flucuates with idle from 36-27 , my EGR_PCT and EVAT_PCT are N/A, my BARO is N/A and all of my cat temps are N/A. I cleared the code and am going to drive it until the light comes back on and see what the code is this time, then take it back to my mechanic. Or take it whenever he calls me.

Sorry for the wall of text but this is just fvcked heres a video of what im talking about cause i dont really know what im looking at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XE5rb3ENuw
