my 96 q is at the dealer to fix the drivers window which got stuck in the down position,I saw the remains of a metal cable sticking thru the door innards.the motor still hums, but dealer says they must replace both regulator and motor, the gears on motor are worn, does this sound likely,or are they trying to sell me a motor i dont need?teey also say car needs upper and lower links, they replaced both upper links 21000 miles ago, seem to be awful early to need doing redone, doesnt it? Also,i have not seen much talk here about replacing LOWER links, how would i know if they are indeed defective? they also wanted to replace tention rods, but would not just do the bushings, looks like a call to Joe is in order! What difference in ride-handling would i notice if upper and lower links were defective?also, what will replacing tension rods do to the ride or handling?can i wait a few months on these?

Not if they are truly worn without degrading and wearing other suspension components prematurely.

Have them demonstrate the worn condition to you. Lower links are unusual, but you didn't say how many miles you have nor where you are located (roads driven and type of driving.)

Are you sure they're referring to the front suspension? The rear has upper and lower links--the bushings wear out. On the front, I would assume by "lower link" they're referring to the 3rd link. Hopefully Q45tech can verify, but I didn't think it had any rubber. Shouldn't wear out, but maybe the kingpin bearing is bad? Replacing the entire tension rod is standard practice at most or all dealerships. Pay for the part or pay for the labor, wouldn't make much difference at the rates dealerships charge.
