Maybe a repost on the truck forum will work better. Here we go. My 95 Xe PU with the 2.4 four has a surge right at 2000 rpms. It will rev to 2500 over and over until i step down on pedal, then it runs fine. It is drivable but a hassle. Noone has a code reader for this old a truck unless i go to a private shop for them to do the work. Not a chance, i do all my own work. Thought cleaning the MAF sensor would be a good start, but what i found on the base of the air cleaner housing was not what i was expecting. I have seen MAF sensors and this tiny little doodad looked nothing like what i have seen. Can't believe this little sensor is the issue. Any thoughts? Should i be looking for another sensor as the culprit? Help!!

You may want to check your throttle position sensor mine was doing something similar and I pulled on the connector plug and it came right off so I hardwired it and no problem.I also found out a lot of the wiring was getting crispy.Good Luck!

Depending on the build date of your 1995 there will not be a code reader for it, no connection was available in early 1995. You have to pull out the passenger seat and set the ecm in diagnostic mode. From there if any codes are present the led lights will flash in sequence.
