I found a 95 motor with 75000 miles on it for a REALLY good price. The compression is prefect 175-180 across the board. What im wondering about is if i will have any problems with the obd I to obd II stuff. Id planned on just changinf all the sensor and obd crap over anyway. But what can be taken off completely? Anything? I planned on the egr-thats the first thing to go.For anyone with a 96...What the hell is all that crap ontop. The intake manifold? It looks like a check valve of some sort with a bunch of vaccum hose coming off of it. Can i take that off completely and just cap the hoses? DO you need it at all. I dont care about the check engine light coming on...just dont want the car to run or idle bad. Also, what about the motor itself- im getting it for 400 shipped to me with a 90 day startup warranty. So its definately a keeper. Does anyone have any advice for bolting on a turbo kit to a used motor like this? (the only ones ive dealt with up until this point are built)By the way- can anyone tell me what the symptoms are of a bad factory fuel pressure regulator?Just trying to eliminate possibilities.

josh, the motor i swapped into my 95 240sx was a 96. The wiring harness is pretty simple. Not too much to it. Just mafs, injectors, and other grounding points.Everything should swap over just fine. Just use your intake manifold since it has different design and different sensors inside. So if I can swap a 96 into my 95 pretty easy, you should be able to swap a 95 into your 96.

about the fuel pressure regulator.Just along as its at 43.5 psi at idle with the vacuum hose off it should be fine. If it doesnt maintain pressure, then there's a problem.

O.K - i DONT HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH THE FUEL PRESSURE TESTING CEPT I DONT GOTS A FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE. I also am having a problem with this intake manifold thing-arent all s14 manifolds the same? About the ecu and harness for a 95...whatcha want for it?

I have a Fuel Pressure gauge on order you can use just to check to see what kind of pressure your stock fpr is setting at.I dont have an extra wiring harness. I compared the 96 intake manifold to my 95 one and they are different. THe fuel pressure gauge i ordered was from summit and it was only like $30 shipped. It just goes inline off of your fuel line and it is mechanical. No wiring needed. I wont be around this weekend but i will for sure the one after that.

You don't need the wiring harness...

Swap the '95 motor in, but before you do, block the EGR off, remove the solenoids/vacuum lines that go the BPT valve (controls the EGR), remove the cvarbon canister from the car, and then put it all back together, sans the vacuum hardlines. Plug the port below the TB...

The different plugs on the wiring harness are TPS and coolant sensors - Use your '96 intake mani and you'll be set.

what do u do with the hardlines? and that plug under the throttle body, what do u do with the line that went into it? it goes to a tube the goes into each intake runner.

You remove the hardlines...IIRC there are 4 of 'em - And they all go to EGR or carbon canister. The port below the TB just needs a vacuum cap.

The one that has a port on each intake runner is the PCV system - Pull the line off the PCV valve (bolted to the block) and point the outlet down - The cap each intake runner port - I crimped mine flat and then folded them over...one less potential boost leak.

im still a lil lost

if ur leaving the oulet pointed down y are u capping off each runner port? can u just remove the outlet and the tube that connects all the runners? i have to go look at my engine but its not at my house

Okay...I swapped the motor in and the only problems I had were. 1) The tps sensors did not plug up. The 96 model uses 2 plugs with 3 pins each. The 95 motor I swapped in uses only the 1 plug connector. No biggie...just swapped the throttle bodies. All fixed. 2)Next is the knock sensor plug was seized, so i had to work to get that one off to replace it. 3) This is the trcky part. I removed all of the egr crapand the hard pipes going across the top of the intake manifold to clean up the motor, and all of the sensors associated...didnt need them. However, for anyone who has looked CLOSELY at the wiring on a 96, there are 2 plugs that are mounted on the front of the intake manifold. I have NO CLUE what they are for, but i can trace the wires to somewhere on the manifold. Theres no reason to switch out the manifolds that i can see, all you have to do to fix the problem of the temp sensor is switch out the temp sensor from one manifold to the opther...very easy to do. I did cap off the hole underneath the t-body. But anway, what i was geting at is the two plugs on the 96 motor about 6 inches above the throttle body are replaced by only one plug on the 95 motor. One of the plugs from the 96 harness ( mine) plugs up onto the plug on the 95 motor. Howeve, now i have a plug with no sensor to go to. Im not too worried yet, seeing as how its probably dealing with some useless *** emissions crap. Here in S.C., we dont have emission tests. And the emissions laws arent enforced at all...people ride with straigh-piped 350's and neven get any problems. Does anyone by any chance know what exactly those 2 plugs are for?

I really need a service manual. Also,I had to removed the tps sensor to see if they could be switched out. Now Im pretty sure i have to recalibrate it. No biggie, but the FAQ says something about testing the far right prong for this and 1st and 2nd prong for that, but doesnt say which plug to test on...remember I have 2.
