Hi all,

it's been a while since i was up here.

My 95 j30 with 67K pristine miles has its first malfunction- the trunk no longer opens via the door switch or the key.No motors are heard whiriing when doing either. First thought it was the fuse. Fuse looked fine, but replaced anyway. No change. This is not a feature I used often, so I was surprised when it conked out. This car has had a very easy life here in sunny So Cal.Aside from assuming the motor (or solenoid) went South, is there any other thing I should be looking for?Is this an easy thing to replace myself with a junkyard motor? Deosn't seem like an item that goes out on too many peoples' cars.TIA

I should have read the other threads- it was the switch in the glove box.Forgot about that one...I promise, no more stupid questions in the future. ;-)

No problem!!! I once locked myself in the trunk because of that switch!

Funny how this didn't seem obvious in my owner's manual either...Have they improved this "feature" in later Infinitis?

I once posted about the same thing and I knew about the glove box switch! My wife actually put some gloves in the glove box and tripped the switch. Who puts gloves in the glove box?

A pen will roll into the hinge of the glove box and switch the trunk off when the door is shut. The pen in question was a "paper Mate" stick pen. This pen is slightly smaller in diameter than the "BIC" disposable pen, and has a straight non-tapered shaft.

Do other pens cause this problem?

There are 2 switches on the Q that I dont know why infiniti put them there. The first is the CANCEL switch on the stering wheel (why would anyone not want the automatic drive positioner), and the trunk switch... Why would anyone not want to open the trunk with the door switch....

I suppose that if you kidnapped a couple of people, stuffed one in the trunk and had the other driving with you holding a gun on him James Bond style in the passenger seat, the override trunk switch could prevent the driver from popping the trunk at a stop light allowing the prisoner in the trunk to escape. Far fetched? Maybe a little.... :D

the idea behind the trunk opener over-ride switch is to disable the door mounted switch,so when valet parking, you can lock the glovebox with the switch activated, and give the valet parker the VALET key, which will not work in the trunk or glovebox cylinders, and keep the contents of the trunk safe from the miscreats.

cancel switch on steering column-say a short person is driving the car, either a tall person or many packages in rear behind the driver, driver gets out to refuel, etc, the seat goes ALL the way back and crushes the poor passenger or groceries!

It amazes me owners do not know the features of their OWN VEHICLES! we are all INFINITI ENTHUSIESTS,arn't we?I always love the one about { I just discovered the power headrests,or ,the mirrors tilt down in reverse?}READ the owners manual, while sitting in the car, order the FSM,and USE the search function!
