Greetings: A friend of mine recenty had a hood replaced and some front end body work done to his 1994 Q45A. Now there is a problem in that the old hood lift supports were trashed and no one can figure out how the new ones are installed. Does anyone have a picture web site or diagrams to try and help out.ThanksMr. Lou

the key to installation I think is to install them on the hood first and then you can compress them to install them on the firewall.

Its a simple job that is a PITA.

What are the part numbers of your Stabilus Lift O Mat? By any chance, are they the SG225009? I think Stabilus makes the best ones.

Here are the other aftermarket brands I found for the G50:

I have a good set for sale if anyone needs em. They were so tight it took two people to close the hood!

Just joking, but they are really good.

In reference to the install, the top nut for the firewall bracket is accessed by lifting up all that rubber you see in the pics.

I'll have to check on that part number.

My new ones are super strong as well. I used to just pull down on the grill with my fingers to lower the hood, now I have to use both hands. No chance at all it will slam on my fingers again

That little nut screws out from the body and the entire part gets replaced. I think it's a 14mm and you just have to take your time. It's a real PITA to do the ones that connect to the firewall. I had to use a stubby wrench and turn it like 1/8 of a turn, flip the wrench, turn 1/8th of a turn, flip, turn, flip, turn, breath.

Oh and as soon as one comes off the hood will fall. Have something under there to hold the hood up.

Dude, you need a set of racheting wrenches. I think the nut is a 10mm, 12 at the most. Using a screwdriver, pry up the rubber and slide the wrench in under it. I think I may have even used a socket. Leave a nut connected on each bracket (finger tightened) until you are really ready to remove else you might get a little guillotine action going on. I pulled set last weekend.

Without bending anything, I couldn't get a gear wrench in there. Tried that.
