92 q45 wont start ,battery,alternator good..

Hi. my father has a 92 q45 that wont start sometime then sometime it will ,battery and the alternator are tested to be good ..he went to the store in it and then tried to start it and it wouldnt start got a jump and it started right up even though it had to be jumped 3 times to make it home because it turned off while driving,when it doesnt start it makes a low starting noise and it wont turn over.when it goes dead it will start with a jump ..and when it starts it sounds strong, any suggestions what he should do and what could be the reason for this? Something seems to be killing the battery.he changed the battery clamps and cleaned the positive battery cable. Thanks in advance

Many auto store employees do not know how to properly test alternators and batteries................the simple to use low cost test equipment supplied to them are not adequate to resolve some situations.

You may also be correct that there is excessive parasitic drain...........measure it.

My 1990 experienced similar symtoms. The positive battery cable was corroded internally and needed to be replaced.

Check all cables thoroughly including the ones going to the starter. Clean the negative cable too. Try swopping with a battery from another car for a while. If that drains too, then alternator or cables would be suspect. If you do end up needing an alternator, I have a like new Nissan remanufactured here.
