We have just purchased a 1992 Q45 and been experiencing some problems. At speeds over 40 mph the car will sway from left to right and there is humming/moaning type noise that is coming from the rear of the car which is especially noticiable at higher speeds. Has anyone had similar problems? Not sure where to start. Thanks.

I am sure you are aware of the fatal timing chain guide issue, so I'll skip that.

Out of curiosity, did it not do this when you were on the test drive? Can you give us alittle more information on the scheduled maintenance performed. Could be a bearing, could be a defective/expired shock combined with a failing fuel pump, hard to tell without more data.

Welcome to the club and be sure to read the previous posts. It will take a while, but I would start with a search on guides if I were a new 1990-1993 Q45 owner.

For the swaying it could be many different suspension components..... However, id say the steering rack bushings are dead....

Your fuel pump is going bad too..... GET THAT REPLACED ASAP.... If you wait, you might fry your fuel pump control unit, which is $500.... The pump is like 200.....

You must also look into getting your guides checked......

Ditto on the guides. Fuel pump moan is usually only heard at idle, and then dies off when it switches into a higher mode at cruise or WOT. I'd be concerned about the differential or rear wheel bearings.

The swaying will just take some work checking out all of the suspension components. Much easier (but more costly) to replace all rubber at the same time. Gets you back to "like new" ride without chasing a new squeak or rattle ever six months.

How many miles on the car? What options (HICAS, Active)and where are you located? All of this info - preferably in your profile - will help us help you!
