Well, after reading thru my 96 fsm (only one i could find closest to my 92) ive come to a stop and dont know what else to do.....

According to the fsm, when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the fuel pump relay will kick on for 5 seconds to build up pressure while the ecu is awaiting for the camshaft position sensor to send the 180 deg signal so that it can keep the fuel pump going. If the ecu does NOT see that 180 deg, the fuel pump stops running.

So i went to the fuel pump relay and went across the coil and turned the ignition ON and i got my 12V for approx 5 sec, then lost it..... GOOD

Then i went to the contact (throw side) and hit the ignition on again and got 12V going to the fuel pump... GOOD

Went to the fuel pump harness and disconnected it and went across pin 5 and had the wife hit the ignition switch on and i got my 12V for 5 sec and lost it... Then it said to check and make sure that i have GROUND at pin 6 and i did. GOOD

Then it said to go across the fuel pump itself at pin 5 & 6 and i should see .5 to 5 ohms short and i did.... i read 2.4 ohms..... GOOD

So it all checks out, im getting power to the fuel pump for the 5 sec it should until the motor turns over and the fuel pump is reading within spec and the motor is cranking and cranking but its not turning over....

So i removed the fuel feed line from the fuel rail, no pressure built up, leave the hose hanging and hit the ignition ON and no flow. turned ignition off and back on and also attempted to crank the motor over.... motor is cranking but no fuel is flowing or shooting out like a geiser....

But its weird all this checks out fine, but when i hit the ignition, i dont hear the pump moving upon 1st ignition hit... even laying down right there by the rear tire listening, and having someone hit the ignition... i dont hear the pump going for that 1st 5 sec.....

im lost......

thats what i narrowed it down to the 1st time when i saw that it would not flow any fuel. So thats when i went to the fsm to narrow the issue down hoping that it was not the pump cause its internal.... But it all checked out ok accordng to the fsm which means the pump should be flowing, but its NOT....

Now when i called autozone, they told me that their are 2 different fuel pumps, one was $190 and the other was $175 and other sites show fuel pumps for this truck at $65....

I guess im gonna drop this tank and pull that suker out and replace it...

thanx

If you have another car to drive in the meantime just order the pump from the internet, ebay has them realllly cheap. Spending the kind of money autoparts stores want these days for the pump is crazy.

One thing i would advise you to do is use your original strainer on the replacement pump as long as its in good condition. Replacement pumps sometimes come with a thicker strainer and can cause fuel pressure problems.

Is the pump specific to my truck or just get a universal one..?? Cause on my 240 i got a walbro hp pump, but that was cause the motor is turbo... This is a basic ka sohc motor in the truck....

you can put a walbro if you want, those are cheaper than autozone pumps. It doesn't have to be a performace car to have a walbro pump...the fuel pressure regulator will make sure the pressure is within spec.
