Non stock options... 31 years this car has been in production. Source them from a reputable dealer. It's not JUST replacing the guides... everything you try to open, remove, or replace will become grief. You will need to order many more parts than just the "guide kit" sites will offer. The car is a japanese car. Japan is the beat source for parts obviously. told myself I will never do a guide challenge again but... I see a worthy q very close to me... https://hartford.craigslist.org/cto/d/e ... 82651.html NICO is the beat bang for the buck on the ECU. I can try to contact the maker said ECU if wes does not answer. Not many people run these cars anymore. So... there is much to learn and chat about. When I first found this forum there was so many knowledgeable individuals. Now there is very few. Most. if not all of the guys left on here will provide any info you need

Steve brings up a very valid point:
At 30+ years old, with a design even older than that (concept/design drawings/prototypes/eventually production), as ahead of its time as it was--the G50/VH45DE is never going to be today's street warrior.
Light performance mods are fine, imho it is about enjoying the car for what it is, not trying to make it something else.

@3Q Jay, that looks glorious! I'm going to pick up a few more bottles soon. I think it is the time of year for the "Red Label"

I agree with you guys. I am going for lighter mods that will help bring it in to this century haha. Everything on my Q is OEM, from the brakes, suspension to the lamp light lol. Just want to make it nice.

I contacted Wes about the NICO ECU, but he is verrrrry slow getting back to me.

@BCC93QT if you could reach out to your connect, or ask him reach out to me that would be awesome. I am trying to get the ECU before we move. That way I have it and can start the project once we get to our new home.

 Patience.... I will put forth some effort for you as I want another nico ECU as well. Honestly.... I will give you one of the Nico ECUs I have if you complete the timing chain guide swap. I want pics. If you complete this I will GIVE you an ECU. I'm not trying to be a doosh. Its 2020...

@BCC93QT What?? That is douchey for 2020. I can just buy it from you for fair price and install it. It seems more viable to sell one to me, since you have the means to get another. I don't have to complete the timing chain swap before hand.

I haven't even received the timing chain guide kit yet. Eric @ PerformanceVH is still machining it for me.

Douchey. Okay. I'm pulling myself out of this thread. It's not a financial gain. It was kind of a gift if you complete the chain guide swap. There is very few of us running these G50s. Was only trying to entice you into completing the guide situation. Best wishes.

That's what we all want to see is another old Q rescued (guides completed) before it's only fit to be a parts donor. Also important to complete that before upping the power/redline limit via flashed ECU.
PS-I'm itchin to try the antique 107, but they never have it at my local store, and I'm not forking over $80+

Believe me. I only want to see more people on this forum. Would love to see every worthy Q45 stay on the road. But long after this guy has scrapped, crashed, or blown up his Q45. I will still be here.

@BCC93QT my bad no disrespect. This is why I stay offline because typed words can be misconstrued and miscommunicated lol. I asked earlier in the thread if anyone had parts to sell, and now nearly a month later you are telling me you have what I've been looking for, sounded like you were trying to "dangle the bait" or be a douche. I get it though. You guys just want to see more running and people who are doing things the right way. @BCC93QT if you still wanted to gift it that's cool. The ECU won't go on until after the "important work" has been done.

Trust me when I tell you, I am not a car idiot. I am in the process of fixing all the necessity issues (timing chain, suspension, etc.) before I do any of the "performance upgrades." As they say around here, "Gotta fix the roof, before you remodel the kitchen." My Q means the world to me and I want to make sure he is in tip top shape forever haha.

As far as doing the work on the timing chain guide myself, I was going to pay a shop to do it. I don't have the tools to complete such a task myself. I called around and there are a few shops who will do it. It will be a little costly but I haven't had a car payment for "Tweener" in 10 years haha. I'm also going to have them put on the suspension components, and other parts to "bundle the work and save." I am still in the process of buying things. I don't want to do one project after another. I want to have all the parts I need, go to the shop once, they put on everything, and I drive off.

@3Q Jay if you want I can look for some Antique 107. It's like $40 around here. It's pretty good stuff. I personally like the "green label" more.

Get a transgo shift improver kit, it does require valve body removal.

The part number for the 93 was 61036-64U20 or 64U75. I've never seen the second
So if the part number is 61036-64U12 it will definitely be 2nd gear start?

Please let me know too, I have a NICO ECU, but want some more flexibility with the programming. It is only a 2-way ECU.

Will this FSTB work with a little bit of modification or does it have to be the specific one mentioned in the above mentioned post?

Thanks again for the help guys.
I have been looking for a Stillen strut bar too. Let me know if you try one of these modified Ebay bars.

@JustJuiceIt I didn't buy https://propartsusa.com/products/Megan- ... 98QAvD_BwE FSTB.
It's bar was not adjustable to the hats. I think that has to be one of the abilities for it to fit in the Q.

I ended up buying this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Upper-St ... SwVbheogkG

Only issue is the "holes for the hats" aren't drilled deep enough to fit the bolt from the hat to the bar, to where it fits on the Q. It is too wide for the Q. If you could find a way to drill the hole maybe a half an inch deeper it would fit perfectly.

J30tChumpCar: I'll look in to that too.

How do you upload pics to this thread?

I *think* so, but all I can say for sure is that the -64u12 tags to production dates from 02/92-07/92. So if it is a second gear start, it would be the final iteration of that design.

Confirmed that it does indeed start in 2nd gear. I believe this had the counter-measure flash for harsh shifting and torque converter lock-up. The reason I wanted this in my 1994 Q45 is for bracket racing. Taking off in second, there should be no wheelspin and I most likely will not have to shift at all! I did find out why so many transmission fried on the early models. Taking off aggressively in 2nd heats up the ATF really fast! Any good guides for installing a tranny cooler?

For some reason I can not edit my previous post. I found the tranny cooler info on Q45.org. Most of the links are not working, but this one did.

I found a JWT ECU from the JWT online store:
http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/custom ... PartID=166

Question...no debates just good honest personal feedback...
Which one is better NICO vs. JWT vs. IMPUL ECU?
The JWT is in stock but should I wait for a better option?
You also might want to consider the Nistune one. ConceptZ has one, not sure if the one for Q45 has the feature pack or not:
https://conceptzperformance.com/nistune ... p_9681.php
Or you could get from Nistune directly:

I would be interested in a NICO ECU as well, having just purchased a 1990 Q45.

Timing chain guides will be replaced as soon as the car gets to me from across the country. :)

Have you had any luck sourcing another NICO Ecu? When I get my new-to-me '90 Q45 caught up on maintenance and repairs in a few weeks I'd love to be able to plug one in and enjoy it.

@Ryantzer - I was able to get in contact with Wes at Q45.org to order one. We were messaging back and forth and then he stopped emailing me. Maybe if you message him as well we could get one at the same time. He's kind of hard to get a hold of.

I emailed Wes on the 21st and haven't heard anything back. I'm guessing this is probably not a high priority for him any longer, but if he was messaging back and forth with you at least there's some hope that he's still interested. Keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Hold hope, I was able to get one 1.5 yrs ago to replace a previous Wes unit that met unfortunate fate.

IF you guys succeed, get a switchable stage 2/3, run premium fuel and there will be no regrets, sooo worth it!
