Hello friends. Does anyone know or remember what the model code for the base Q45 and the touring “t” and full active suspension “a” were? I remember 94211 but don’t remember which model that was. Thanks

I have the Monroney from my '95 active. So, for the Kouki Actives (at least model year '95, not sure if '94 is the same) it is 94615.
Interesting question--I'll be interested to see what the others are!

Thank you very much. I sold them during those years and just couldn’t remember. That’s awesome you have the original Monroney sticker. If I recall that was about $60000.$62000?

59950 MSRP
included gas guzzler tax!
I'm speculating that the last digit is the model year?
that would be consistent if 94211 was from your '91 touring.

I was close. Forgot about that $1000 gas guzzler tax on the “a”. Did you know the full active suspension took 3hp but Infiniti never listed that hp @275 vs 278? Have you had any major problems with your Q? How many miles are on it?

Yeah, I'm sure there is more induced drag from the tandem pump than the conventional PS only pump, but I can't worry too much about that. I'm generally a 'hypermiler' driver.
But every once in a while I need to do a redline run just because.
I have done extreme maintenance to both G50s. I would categorise them as very reliable, but very unforgiving of ignorant/incompetent owners and mechanics.
the '94 (07/93 build) has just over 154k
the '95 (11/94 build) has just under 154k

You definitely know your “Q’s”. Thanks for all the help and chit chat. I won’t keep this chat going I’m sure it can be annoying. Thanks again and I might hit you back for some advice later m

Cheers

It was a very underappreciated car imho. Still is, although it is certainly unremarkable and pedestrian by today's standards.
I always thought the G50 had a lot of content, and inspite of the relatively high sticker back then, coupled with the dealers having to sell them way below MSRP, from my chair it's no wonder it was eventually discontinued because I'm sure it didn't make money for Nissan.
Too bad, as now 25-30 years on, for the few of us that still have and maintain these fine examples of Japanese engineering there is so little parts support.
It must have been fun selling them back then. In late '89 and early '90 to hear the VH45DE winding out past 6000 rpm must have blown peoples shorts off.
I know it did for me, the first time I drove one
It's a small community...happy to help if I can!
cheers~

Ace, there's nothing annoying about this, it's great info for new Q owners and Jay is a WEALTH of info (always has been).

I miss my 95 Q45t. That car is the reason this site exists (little-known fact). :)

I too miss my 1991 Q45t except for the 3 transmission replacement it need by 1994. My 1996 Q45 still going strong after 24 years service,

What exactly makes the Q45t a t model when it comes to the quicker steering. Is it the steering rack, the tie rods or what?

Thru the '94 model year, the "t" had HICAS, which was the nissan 4WS system.
'95 and '96 "t" models did not get the HICAS

Has anyone had a timing chain failure? Would the car run it you did?

I had one in my first Q. It ran very poorly, and I turned it off withing a minute or so. I was told it had jumped time two teeth, resulting in a bent valve on one cylinder. I was lucky. Many times, they just turn off and the engine is scrambled.

What I meant was that the "t" models had a 15:1 steering ratio, while the non "t" model had the 17:1 steering ratio. What component changed this ratio? When looking at steering racks, it does not indicate if it is for touring or not.

I was lucky enough that it didn't damage the head or the piston on that cylinder. If I remember correctly $2300 and about three weeks later I got it back from the dealership. This would have been in the late 90's, when they still had techs familiar with the G50. They pulled the head on that side, replaced all 4 valves on that cylinder, replaced the chains and guides, and called it good.

It ran surprisingly well for another 80K miles before someone hit it in an intersection doing relatively minor damage and totaled it. I had my current Q by then, and it had been a temporary car for my wife, so we sold it and bought her a '05 G35.

Thanks for the reply. I feel it’s all top end and hopefully I can find a complete head or rebuild. I’ll keep you posted. It’s at a repair facility now.

Maybe I'm missing another thread somewhere. Did you have a guide failure?

Not sure of the problem. Engine was fine then at a stop light developed a loud knocking noise Could be a stuck or bent valve. I just bought it recently and don’t know if the plastic t chain guides have been replaced. I assume not. Car only has 69500 original miles on it and is unbelievably clean inside and out

Was it running normally other than the noise? If so I would suspect a clogged hla (lifter). That would be more of a "tap" than a knock, but it's pretty loud.

The engines were sealed with a light blue colored liquid gasket, so if that's the color on your front cover you can be almost certain that no one has been in there to replace them.

It starts and runs seemingly fine. No rough idle, no check engine light either I have an audio recording not sure if I can post that ? It’s more of a loud clicking or tapping noise than a lower end deep knocking noise. Is the blue gasket visible from looking at the engine?

You'd have to host the audio somewhere, like YouTube, and link to it here.

The liquid gasket is visible, it squirts out a bit between the edges where the engine is sealed.

I just have it on my phone in a video. I’ll go look at the car later today. It’s in the repair shop lot
