It would probably be best to get JWT to custom program your TCU for the new ratios. Not sure if a 1993 TCU would work even if it met all the version requirements.

teh transmission's are nearly the same.only difference is gear 1+2 are shorter in the 90/93 models.

You may need a new TCU ( but maybe not) .

My 1990 Transmission has just landed back into the country and is being cleared through customs. ie I will be putting a 1990 Transmission in a 1994 Q45. (Level 10 rebuild with billet aluminium Torque converter)

The OEM TCU 'may' still work, but if you are changing it for the lower 1st and second gears, surely you would want the higher shift points of a sports mode TCU

I am using the JWT Trimode TCU. I had lengthy correspondence with JWT and they advised that there should not be any problems with using the JWT Trimode for all years from 1990 - 1996. Therfore, no custom programing is warranted.

No core exchange was required, as the Trimode is built from scratch. The Trimode is running the OEM 1994 Transmission really well, keeping it in sports mode all the time.

Please note that I am not sure on the effect of the swap on the ECU, as the TCU and ECU talk to each other.

If the shift points on the TCU are to high for the OEM ECU, I assume that simply getting the Jwt ECU upgrade will overcome this, by preventing the TCU 'bumping' into the standard rev limiter on the ECU.

I should be able to provide more comment soon, as I should have the new Transmission fitted soon. I shall keep my fingers crossed.

Ramshorn,

The person to contact at JWT is Ben.

http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/

The email correspondence between myself and Ben shold answer most of your questions. If you want me to forward it to you direct, email me at [email protected]

Stillen have one on the shelf, which will cost you a little more, but you will get it straight away. It took nearly 6 months for JWT to build it form me. Stillen may want a core exchange, but JWT do not require one.

If you can wait, get it from JWT. If not, get a cheap used TCU from a junkyard and use this for the Stillen core exchange. I would not let go of my OEM TCU

Regards
