Hello!!! Well the truck is my nephew's. I am doing the work on it for him, he helps some. It is a 1986 Nissan D21 pickup. Standard cab, 5 speed, nothing power. I have been fighting with the electrical system on it for a while, looks like someone else before us liked fixing things with bypasses and offhanded jumpers. Well I got it running again. He went to go to work and blew a hose, but instead of stopping and having my tow it back to fix it he kept on going. Now it has a major engine issue, 25 psi compressing on #1 And 14 on #2 with 3 and 4 not even strong enough to read. Now most people would scrap it or part it out at this point. Well I see a rust free strait little truck with ton of potential to be a great ride again. I will need to just replace the main harness altogether. The engine, he wants me to rebuild it, I m not sure it can be rebuilt. We both agree it needs more power than it had (had a hard time getting to 55 before the big overheat). Should we go with another Z24 or try to find a V6 for it? Is there somewhere that has wiring available? I will post pictures when I can figure out how to. This is my nephews first car. He says he will not get rid of it as he hears so many people wishing they still had there fist car. Any info or help is greatly appreciated. Shaun

if you go with anything else than a Z24 you will need to replace the trans and transfer case as well as adapting the wiring.

Well I got into things a bit more. The head is shot. Pistons are burnt pretty bad. I found a 3.0 with all the wiring but am not sure it will bolt in without any major modifications. Ohh yea, the truck is a 2wd so I do not need to worry about a transfer case. Like I said the current wiring is in need of serious work so I am definitely open to replacing it. Hope to get some info from a couple service books I have ordered. Thats about it for now, Shaun

you will need the trans for the v6 as well. if the v6s wiring harness is complete, it would be just a swap between the two vehicles. not an easy task and very time consuming, but if you have technical ability you should not have any issues, just mark where the connectors came from.
