Thanks for the comments everyone :Di didn't think this thread would ever come back, lol. I've got some good news and some bad news though.the bad news is this project has been put on a halt since my last post and i decided to do the sr20 swap in my other 240 which can be found zer...id=44so sorry to disappoint anyone on that. But the good news is that I will be continuing this build when my hatch build is done, and it will have WAY more to it than what i've done so far. I'm putting in a Ford motor, haven't decided yet but it will at least be a 289, but I'm shooting for a 351 windsor. I will be doing a lot of custom work when this time comes so be on the look out for a continuation of this thread in the future. Thanks again everyone! But seriously, check out my hatch build, i need support for that one too :D And i love suggestions and opinions, so please leave some. Hope to hear from you in my other build thread! its in my signature. thanks!-Matty

Haha, yeah I'd love to update but there isn't much to tell. Hmmmmmm..... Well the car is sitting in a garage about 15 minutes away from my house so I could make room to work on my hatch in my own garage. My friend is buying a 79' Ford F250 Rancher for $600 and parting everything out. We made a deal of $250 for the motor which is a 351M, transmission and anything else I need to get it running. Not a bad deal. Now all I have to figure out before we seal the deal is whether or not the motor will even fit in the engine bay without hitting the steering shaft. It is a 5.8L, so I know it can't be much bigger than an LS1 since they are a 5.7L. I've got a bit of research to do and it's very hard to find since I have never heard of anyone putting a 351 in an S Chassis before. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I am going to do an s14 kouki front end conversion. I've always loved the way it looks on coupes. This is probably one of the first things I'll be doing because if I don't do it first then I'll probably never do it. Anyway, keep checking up for updates.... or not....

Now you have to worry about weight issues if you care. The ls1 only weighs 575lbs fully assembled WITH transmission and thats why you see a lot of "hybrids" with that motor.

Leading me to say the 351 is probably a bit bigger than the LS motors in overall size. Just so you know how many liters the motor has doesnt mean its bigger in size physically.

Also, isnt the windsor different than the other 2 351's (modified, cleveland) ? Like theyre are bigger, or their heads are or something? I dont remember, im not a ford guy

I am well aware of dealing with the extra weight. A 351 Windsor weighs 510lbs, about 140lbs heavier than a ka24de. LS1's weigh about 400lbs, so yes they are light compared to a ford v8.And yes, the windsor is different. The windsor has a deeper stroke than the cleveland and they have different heads. The cleveland has heavier heads but are mostly said to be more powerful. A cleveland block weighs around 525lbs. If anything I will go with a 302 instead of a 351, which weighs closer to 460lbs, not too bad over the ka's weight. Also, with the power than can be easily made from a ford v8 would help compensate for the weight.

Anyway... nothing is set in stone yet so there are still a few ideas up in the air. One thing I am trying to keep away from is a chevy block, no offense or hatred, I'm just more into ford motors and it's something a lot more uncommon than ls1 swaps.

Get you a 4.6 then. Im not sure as to how much they are in comparison to the ls motors, but one from a cobra or something. Or even the 5.0 (which you said 302 already) something fuel injected.

^^No offense taken I have an ls1 sitting in my garage that I plan to put into a miata when I get around to it. I dont hate on anything unless I happen to know its junk. I like the ls motors becuase not only do they have great potential but they are one of the best motors gm has ever made. Stout enough for big power, light in comparison to things similar, and are very dependable.

Everyone has horror stories of "their motors" but I mean everything can and will break if you dont take care of it. And that goes to people who think 302's and such are junk. Most are now because idiots get ahold of them and cant keep out of the throttle and bouncing it off the redline, and then complain its junk becuase it didnt hold up to their abuse. Ignorence I say.

agreed agreed and agreed. I've thought a lot about a 289 or 281 but it seems too easy, too common. I want to do something that I haven't seen before and holds an amazing amount of potential.I have a lot of respect for the ls motors since they are so light and powerful, that's hard to do. Thats really awesome you're putting it in a miata. I've seen some of those before. Once they get on it they get out quick! hahahaah.Yeah I hear you about people complaining about their motors too. A lot of my friends drive like idiots, one of them in a TC and he hits rev limiter AT LEAST 4 times a day for no reason at all. It's an 08' and he's gone through a transmission, a clutch, the transmission he has now isn't sounding too good, and his motor has a tap. I don't understand it maaan.
