That is one hell of a way to pull an engine!!! A ladder, A tree, and a come-along.

seconded!

I'm picking up a 91 coupe today as a matter of fact, 110k on the engine, runs strong 5 spd. Was in a hit in run on the back passenger side... doesn't effect driving but looks horrible. Needs new coil overs and an alignment badly. It looks pretty decent. So look for a thread in the near future =)

As far as your build goes (sorry didnt mean to thread jack) It looks amazing man, keep at it and keep us updated!

yeah man you should really be using metal instead of fiber. mig welders are relitivly cheap and so is sheet metal, and think if its gunna be a track car and if you ever wanted to put in a roll cage you would already have the welder!

to answer this for everyone, i'll start by saying i thoroughly checked the entire car for rust and the spots i have pictured are the only rusted places on the car, which is pretty damn good if you ask me :Das for the whole fiberglass thing, i am only using fiberglass for that one hole because there are lines running right underneath that hole and the guy i had doing the welds for me didn't feel comfortable with welding that close to them. fiberglass will work just fine anyway. as long as it covers the hole and keeps out rust then it is doing just what i need it to.

so not much of an update for today. i talked to jeff from heavy throttle and he said my motor should be here by friday :D !!!!! Can't wait!!!i told him i wanted to upgrade from the spec stage 2 clutch to the stage three and he didn't even charge me for the upgrade. that guy is the greatest, haha.aaaannnndd i made got a sweet trade for a 2-way diff from a guy i met recently, so i'm pretty excited about that as well. i had an extra fmic and he had an extra diff. laying around. he needed the intercooler and i could definitely use the diff. so that was that :D. it's in super good condition, looks damn near brand new.okay, so now for the parts pic i promised. these are all the parts i've got so far and there are still more to come! Enjoy!

also, my welder friend and i got done with cutting out the rust and welding up the holes on thursday. soooooo im 95% sure this car is now rust free :DAND i'll post an update with a full list of parts soon! check back soon!-mattY

*actually, i just realized i left out a couple parts but you guys get the point. i'll take another picture when EVERYTHING is here :DLater guys!

hey everyone :Dsorry for the lack of updates latley :\ i've got good and bad news.the good news is the motor came in the other day!!

aannnddd a few more parts came in as well, which is good. i'm still waiting on a few things to come in though, but i've got time because of the issue that leads me to the bad news.my friends and i took a good look at the chassis the other day when we went to put in my diff. and take off the exhaust and it left me with some concerns i dont really need to go into detail, but i'm sending the car off to the body shop hopefully within the next week to get fixed, which is good. and i've already heard it from everyone, "just junk it and get another chassis" but the damage is definitely repairable and i would feel much better knowing that i've restored the car instead of just trashing another 240, which happens all to often.the way i see it, this just leaves me more time to get some more parts for the motor and start on the suspension! so i'm actually somewhat glad that it has worked out this way. i wanna do everything the right way, so i'll take all the time i need. i met a few really great guys over the past week who are really trying to help me out with everything too, so i am grateful for that :]friends keep me motivated!hmmmmmmmmmm........ well it seems i've been leaving you guys hangin with vague descriptions on all the parts i have waiting to be put to use, so i'll give you a list right here. this is all off the top of my head so i'm pretty sure i'll leave some stuff out, but basically here is what i currently have either in the mail or in my garage.

haven't been extremely productive latley, mainly just going back and forth to little things like cleaning the motor and taking out some sound deading. i painted the valve cover the other day and then i went to do the lettering and effed everything up, so i stripped it down to metal and i'm redoing it now. i promise it'll look nice when i'm done tomorrow i'm gonna clean up the motor real good and put a good coat of engine enamel on there since i don't have to work. i want it to look CLEAN. I'm still waiting on my intake and turbo manifolds, and i'm having some trouble getting a new friction plate for my flywheel. I tried taking off the stock flywheel yesterday but i don't have the right fitting for the bolts, so i'll have to find one somewhere. some more parts came in also, i'll get more pics up tomorrow but here are a few for now.here was the painted valve cover before it got messed up:

spec stage III

ssqv blow off valve. that thing looks like it came from star wars or something

i was talking to jeff from heavy throttle about rocker arm stoppers and i think i'm gonna order a pair of those. anyone have any experiences with these? also, i've been hearing that i will need a new MAFS for my bigger MAF that i got in my kit from heavy throttle. i wouldn't know anything about that. and i'm getting closer to ordering suspension parts but i can't decide on which coilovers. i'm pretty much stuck between silkroads or stance gp+pros. leave me some feedback, i've been feelin' all lonely here

so once again, i went through another day without doing anything to my car. instead of prepping the motor and worrying about the body work we did a auto to 5 speed swap in my friends 89 hatch. wowzer! it gave us a lot of headache and took about 13 hours to do it but we got it

...actually, i did take the p/s pump and a/c compressor off before we did all that. here's some pics!!the sr block. still pretty messy but i'll get it nice and clean with a nice coat of engine enamel soon.

most of the stuff i took off. can't wait to get all the new parts on.

The 5 speed swap! we did the whole thing in a car wash garage where the owner of the gold 240 works. it was a great place to do everything and my friend with that red civic took advantage of the location and decided to clean out his car, haha.here sits the manual transmission. it came out of my old ka motor and i didn't need it so i let my friend have it for the swap. it's pretty new so it should work fine.

the auto transmission. that thing was crazy heavy! glad to have it out.

the new transmission is in!!

almost ready to roll here. we were getting pretty excited but then when ran into a bunch of problems and ended up staying until 4 a.m.

there are still some issues that need to be worked out, and we're pretty sure we need a new pilot and throw out bearing, but at least now we know how to do it :D my friend gave me some acid stuff to clean the gunk off my motor too and man, it works wonders.tomorrow i'm taking my car to the shop to get my frame/underbody work done. i'm having it sandblasted to remove any rust also, so this bad boy should be like new once everything is done with. Can't wait!! i'll try to get some pics for you guys.

yea man, everyone has somethin to say about the picker, hahaha. and yea i've put quite a bit into it so far and i'm still ordering new parts all the time. i can't wait to get it all together :D i'm waiting on my intake manifold and friction plate right now though, but i still have a TON of questions about what i need as far as the tuning part goes. i have that z32 MAF but i dunno if i need a MAFS for it, and i definitely need an ecu tune but i can't decide whether to send mine away and get it tuned, get it dyno tuned somewhere or go with an AEM ecu. so i'm super worried about how it's gonna run with all the mods once it's all done.

\yea, it takes time. my motor has been sittin for over a week now, but look at it in a good way man! now you have more time to build it up while its out and prep everything :Dand the car is officially in the shop! the guy took a good look at it and honestly thought i should have just gotten a better chassis rather than getting all kinds of work done to mine, but i wanna get that thing nice and strong i was planning on putting all my parts on the motor tonight but i'm helping my friend help his transmission since it's been messing up after the 5 speed swap, but i'll keep you guys posted!-Matt

so i got a report from the shop today and the car is ready to be, if not already sandblasted, so thats good news :Di finished the valve cover yesterday and i'm pretty proud of it. the picture is a bit blurred, sorry. it was taken with my phone.

then i started putting the pulleys on and then i decided that the alternator would look much better painted black, so pulled it apart and painted the face of it and it indeed looks much better. then i went to put the belts on and i found that my power steering belt is too damn short, so i have to get the right size somewhere. if anyone knows where i can get one that fits, it would be great for you to share that info with me aaaannddddd then i went to replace my pilot and throw out bearings but i can't get the pilot bearing out. i went to auto zone and got a puller but it was too wide to fit in there. so right now i'm just stuck on a few things and i'm still waiting on my intake manifold and friction plate aaanndd i'm lookin into getting an aluminum drive shaft since i gave my stock one to my friend so we could do his 5 speed swap, so i'm trying to find the best place to have that built. i may just go with a steel one though, i haven't decided yet. anyway, i'll post another update when i start making some more progress. hopefully the car will be out of the shop this week... we'll see

quick update.i went and took a look at my car after the underbody got sand blasted. its clean, but has a lot of holes. although i'm only worried about the frame, the floor panels will be patched as well. here are your pictures

i would have taken more but there isn't much to see. the guy that did all the work gave me a camera i've yet to develop with pictures of my car being lifted by a crane. oh joy! i'll post them after i get them developed. anyway, all the welding is gonna be done free of charge, so thats a good thing :] and a industrial welding specialist came to take a look and he cut out some plates that we will be using to reinforce the frame. should be strong as an ox when its all done with.and while all this was going down my friend asked me to paint his valve cover since he liked the way mine turned out. so here is a pic of how that turned out

i've still got a few more parts to get also. i need a p/s belt since the one that heavy throttle sent me isnt long enough, an intake gasket, and i'm gonna replace the rear main seal. but i'm putting everything off for a little because i'm selling my mazda and buying a 93' hatch with super hicas that i'll be putting tein s-techs and a megan exhaust on there. so i'm super excited about that.i'll keep you guys posted!
