hello, i just got my 87 nissan HB, its got the z24i engine. now i don't know anyone who has the same type of engine so i don't have anything to bass it off of, but my truck seems to be gutless as F*&(&, like the truck has a hard time loosing traction on dirt.. is this with all the z24i or is there something wrong with mine.also 0-60 is stupid slow, like probably about 15 seconds, i might just be used to my 240sx but its still crazy how slow it is.

Oh hell yeah, another z24i. I had the same exact truck. It weighs in at about 3200 lbs. It has but 103 hp and 134 lb ft of torque. So yeah, it can be gutless, 15 seconds from naught to 60 is about right, maybe 12 seconds. However, I did manage to have some fun with it. You can spin it out on dirt if you're already moving when you kick it sideways, otherwise it might just spin one wheel. There is alot of info on here about the z24 motor, and I'm personally a fan of that engine, good to see you.

It's a truck not a race car. Have you gone through the truck checking things like plugs, wires, coking inside the throttle body, timing, compression and all the filters? Or did you just start trying to beat on it before you knew what condition the engine is in?

well as i said i am used to my 240sx, but, i am having a blast with it, i have a millermatick locker in the rear end. so i know thats whats taking alot of the power away on dirt throwing, and i have replaced all the plugs wires cap and rotor, TPS, and i am going to take a look over the TB in a few days, first i have to rebuild my brakes because my drum blew apart taking everything with it. 300$ latter. this was just to see if the trucks are known for being gutless in high range or not. also the tires on the truck are 31's.

but dam that truck goes just about anywhere.

Header, exhaust, and CAI. 2.25" is about right on the 4 banger exhaust.

That, and if it hasn't been done, do a full tuneup - plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.

Well, you could go my route and turbo it. :D

I'm using my T3/T4, Megasquirt I V2.2, and Ford EDIS-4. I'll post results on my thread once I get it done.

like DR said exhaust opens up a lot...

i noticed a decent bit of kick and just good running overall from the pacesetter header with 2" exhaust up to a high flow cat and 2.25" from the cat back... no muffler only a resonatori also took the entire snorkel off of the intake and i'm just running a filter and a lid along with a few vacuum lines closed off for smooth running

not cheap but definitely not gonna break the bank... if you can where you live i'd say go catless as well

On the old Z22 and Z24 Carb'd models I remember that the secondaries on the carb would seize up over time. This would cause the motor the rev up like an old lady. On the Z24i I bet the timing combined with coking in the TB has something to do with it since the motor does not have secondaries.
