Post

Ok, my brain has been frying over the research I have done so far but hopefully I can make some sense on here.

What I know:
I have and 85 Nissan 720, King Cab, 4x4, Sport Truck. My input shaft bearing and rear counter shaft bear are toast. Where the input shaft mates to the main shaft are toast on both shafts. My front plate that covers the input shaft bearing took some damage too. But everything else looks great. Also have the 12" tail housing.

What I am wondering:
I found an 85 720 LT, King Cab, 4x2 for an awesome price. It has a 16.5" or 16" (can't remember, one of the two) tail housing. My understanding is all the LT models hade the longer tail housing no matter 4wd or 2wd. And the sport trucks had the 12". Makes no sense but I could be wrong. I wanted to use the input shaft and main shaft from that transmission plus some of the awesome panels and new carb off the 4x2 in my 4x4. Will those shafts work my transmission? I would think the main shaft on the longer tail housing would have to be longer but not sure.

The input shafts from most datsun/nissan trannys are interchangeable as they use the same bearing and bearing cover. What makes the difference is the number of teeth on the shaft as this controls the ratios. Its better and easier to swap the entire transmission.
