85 300zx engine swap questions

a friend of mine did an engine swap from the vg30e to the vg30et the car she swapped it into had a bad ecu. she has a 4 speed auto in it and was having problems with the transmission afterwards . the ecu that she replaced the busted one with came out of a 300zx with a five speed. could that b causing the problems with the transmission?????

yes. you can use an auto ECU in a manual transmission car, but you can't use a manual transmission ECU in an automatic.

thanks alot i figured it was something simple. so correcting the issue could b as simple as reflashing the ecu r replacing it with a auto ecu???

I don't know how you're going to reflash the ECU. It's probably much easier to replace it. But I still think there might be something different wrong with the car. The transmission isn't going to shift into 4th gear until it's completely warmed up. So during the swap, there might have been a few things knocked loose or not reconnected. Might want to start there.

i havent dove the car r anything yet im jus going strictly by wat i was told but the way she described it, is it drives in park neutral and drive, and does nothing in reverse. she checked the linkage and it was correct thats wat led me to believe it was the ecu swap that caused the problem. im going to find out if there were any known problems with the transmission before the engine swap took place.

That would be completely different and that's not ECU related at all.

There is something wrong with the transmission.
