Hi, I am having a difficult time finding the correct starter for my SD22 engine. Have tried four starters from the local parts stores and they are never the correct ones. Does anybody have a suggestion if there is a different starter than the standard one that the parts stores show on their computers?

thanks tg

From what I can tell by looking online, the diesel starter should not be any different than the gas motor starter. After all, the flywheel is still the same... I can't help much more than that, because there's just not a lot of diesel info, but a gas starter should do it. Hope that helps!

They're basically the same. At least they use the same bendix and housing.

No, the diesel starters are almost twice as big as an L series starter. They are nothing alike.
this is what you need.(unless it is one of the rare gear reduction starters)

I would find a fork lift supply house and they can get you one for an SD22.

Hey there is a Forklift place (JESCO) = Joes Equipment Sales Co., Inc. 3437 Railroad Ave Ceres, CA that used to and probably still stock a lot of SD22 parts. Sorry, but I dont have their phone number, but I have spoken to them a few times within the last year. The million dollar question though, is why not have the original started rebuilt. I don't know where you are located, but out on the west coast LA and AZ, that is easily accomplished. How is that diesel SD22 holding up otherwise.

Kchief.
