My truck's idle is erratic in its operation. When I first turn it on in the morning the idle seems a little high when i get to a stop - even after operating at normal temp for some time.

Now, if I turn off the truck, to pump gas or something, when i turn it back on the ilde seems too low. Will even turn off if I don't keep my foot on the accelerator to prevent truck from dying.

After normally operating it again, after a while, it idles high again. Also, It has only backfired on me once when turning it off. Any ideas are most welcomed.

Sounds like a vac leak. Get some carb and choke cleaner and start spraying it on all of the vac tubes, intake manifold, bottom of the carb, hose to the brake booster, etc. If you find a leak, the idle should change.
