I have a 09 Rogue S with almost 75000 kms on it. I am wondering if I should get the service plan that Nissan recommends with all the fluid changes and everything else on it. Normally I would just get an oil change and that's it. I would like your thoughts on this please?

Personally I'd get all the fluids changed too since you're at about 50kmi...but that's just cause I'm anal about maintenance. You can do some of them yourself, but if the Rogue is anything like my M, then some of them can get messy.

Just my opinion...doesn't have to be the dealer though, if you have a locally trusted mechanic, he can likely do them just as well.

One way or another (DIY, independant shop, dealer), I think the recommended fluid changes are a good idea. Fluid does have a lifespan and fluid does protect some of the more critical (and expensive) components of your vehicle. At 75K I would assume your manual is not touching the CVT fluid, which is the most expensive to change, so the cost should be relatively reasonable.

There are some articles on the forum by 5.56 (I think he did them all) with videos (on some of them, not sure if all of them have videos) and pictures on how to do many of the common fluid changes. While you should only perform this yourself if you are confident in your abilities, the instructions and pictures/videos should give you an idea on whether that's something you want to do. It can also give you an idea of potential questions to ask if done at a non-Nissan shop (like "What type of fluid do you use?").

Unfortunately, part of owning a car is maintaining it and that ends up costing money. Maintenance is just that - doing something before it breaks - so it can be difficult to always see the value. But the fluids are what keep the moving parts moving, and problems with the fluids can cause many expensive problems down the road. Following the maintenance scheduled by changing your fluids is just like insurance - you do it because it may help you down the road, not because of an immediate benefit.

I'm in a similar boat. I've a 2011 Rogue with 32k miles, Mar 2015 is time for the 48 month/60K maintenance. I got it last May with 19K miles. not sure to go the whole preventative route, or just the fluids, I baby'd my old G35, and it got me 132K before the engine died, my wife has a 98 Honda CRV with 130+ and she barely does anything to it.

i've posted something to this, before- i just cant find it. so here goes: DO YOUR MAINTENANCE!
but you dont have to follow the schedule that the dealer gives you. You should take your driving style/location into account when reading the maintenance schedule within your owners manual. car manufacturers want to make their cars appear low maintenance (lower cost of ownership), but that increases the risk of parts failing. On the opposite end of the spectrum, dealers want to take your money, so they scare you into premature maintenance. here is a happy medium:

if you are an easy, normal driver, living in typical climates(arizona for example is not 'typical'.)
engine oil: conventional, every 5k
CV-Joint Axles: should be inspected every oil change. (you will notice grease stains on the insides of your rims the flat area's)
engine coolant: every 75k is fine
spark plugs: inspect at 50k, replace at 75k (yes, i know its early by about 25k = but its better to replace it early, than have it fail 200miles from home)
CVT transmission fluid: every 50k, a check should be done. replace as needed
transfercase: every 30k - 50k.
rear differential: every 30k - 50k.
brake fluid: replace every 15k - 30k (inspect the color every oil or air filter change)
engine air filter: inspect every oil change, and replace when dirty
cabin filter: replace at the beginning of every spring (to prevent allergies, and breathe easier)
wax the exterior: twice a year (pre-winter, and pre-summer)
tire pressure: inspect every month. its a serious safety concern
light bulbs: check them every 4 times a year with a friend to help
R134a(freon): you can check in the middle of the spring to see the level. if its cold, dont worry about it.
we dont have a servicable fuel filter.
fuel injectors: there is no way to clean them, unless you physically remove them, and send them to an ultra-sonic cleaning machine shop. regular fuel additives is 'ok', but not a true cleaning. and thats all the dealer does anyway when they say "fuel injector cleaning". its a total scam.
