Can't seem to find any information on what transmission is in my 83 720 it is a 4 speed. I swapped in a ka24e and am wondering how much power these things can hold? At some point I want to upgrade and swap in a transmission from an RB25DET but SAS and rust repair will be priority over that need to know if i will have to baby the transmission once I do SAS and daily the truck.

It should be good to about 250 hp or so... I used to be pretty big into the older Z cars and we've put at least that much power thru those trannys with no breakage problems.
You can always use the cast iron bearing support from a Z car trans to replace the aluminum one but other than that, they're plenty strong... even with the aluminum bearing supports.
