67 411 SSS (Williams or bust)

The quirky and versatile Datsun 410 and 411 series sedans and wagons laid the groundwork for the 510.

I picked up this 67 SSS a few years ago and have been searching parts and waiting for the right time to start this rolling resto. The plan is to get the drive train in good shape...seals, gaskets and replace the non-working bits etc....Down the road I have a hot 2L in the works but the R16 will do for now.

I have been working on getting the motor out and assessing 48 years of weather, neglect and previous owners damage on this cool little ride.

This is as far as I'm tearing it down...the motor had good compression.....taking it down to a short block will ensure the congealed old coolant, funky 20 year old oil and dry gaskets won't prematurely stop my fun!

This is the Goal..to have my 411 not only in the show but I want to drive up to Williams (about a 3-4 hour drive from Phoenix depending on the Dattos age).

I do plan on keeping the patina...sorry to the "Can't drive my pristine, fully restored, I only rub it with a diaper guys" I love the look of a classic that has been around the block but can still turn some heads.

and yes....the block for the 2L is coming out of a late roadster

#not numbers matching #COOLERthanYOURS

Motor ON!!!!!!!!

Looking Good! Rockers and fenders look to be rust free and battery tray looks to be in good shape as well.

Overall it is pretty dry but there are a couple spots that I will have to attend to. I have a 67 auto SSS that I will use as a parts car and metal donor.

I have made a bit of progress..I did not rebuild the motor because it had good compression but I did want to change the seals and throw some paint on it.

Before you even think of scrapping any remnent part from the donor RL411UAK, let me know! I have kept my RL411UAK going since I bought it new and would like to squirrel away unknown failure parts for the next 50 years! Especially Pinin Farina design defect body parts. Don't ask about the botched spot welds of the roof into the exposed body integral drip channels! Italian design deficiencies! I intend to drive my RL411 to my 120th Birthday party, you are hereby invited! BTW, this will be in 2057! Seriously, keep these jewels on the road!

Any updates on this project ? My goal is to keep the RL411s on the road . R411s also welcomed ! AND the W station wagon variants which are super cool ! BTW, I believe that the RL411 and WRL411 series continued in production past 1968 for the Okinawa semi JDM market since Okinawa was under US Military juristition at that time and used California motor vehicle rules as the standard, including of course driving on the right hand side of the road. Proved a major problem when Okinawa reverted to Japanese control ! All traffic was suspended while road striping and traffic signs were changed and the Japanese government had to replace all buses with "proper" right hand drive versions with passenger door on the "proper" side.
