ok so after i replaced the slave cylinder on my transmission the pressure problem has been resolved... Now there is another problem.. sometimes going down the road (engine at operating temp) when shifting ill get some resistance and sometimes some grinding. I have noticed that the friction point in the clutch keeps getting close and closer to the floor but i think thats just some air in the line and bleeding it will fix that. my questsion is do you think i should replace the transmission fluid? i have no clue of when it was last serviced

If you can't remember the last time it was changed it goes without saying that you should change it.

I would stick to your own idea of bleeding the clutch. Air in the lines could likely cause weak clutch operation and you get some bad shifting. Try that since you already suspect air, and then re-evaluate the shifting before you start spending $$.

When the clutch is released as you press the pedal, there should be no coupling between the engine and transmission. You could have a siezed pilot bushing, a siezed throwout bearing, or broken (somehow) fingers on te pressure plate. My 87 had some trouble even after a new clutch kit, but only the 1st-2nd upshift while racing the engine. Also, sometimes it would hit 5th instead of 3rd while trying to shift too fast. Just for my info, how are your clutch components after all these years?

Also, the throwout bearing could be only halfway siezed due to excessive wear and tear, (bearings don't just collapse). many times with these trucks, the case is that the clutch components will go out before the clutch disc friction surface wears completely, so it will not nessesarily slip, but the other components still fail, especially on a 22 year old rig. But before you spend lots of money on a new clutch, make sure you have the correct amount , (and type), of lubricant in the transmission. Its all about saving money, right?

Thanks man i appreciate the tips! Im taking it to a friend of mine who owns a shop downtown so he'll have a look see... I am thinking its the Pressure plate.. but you never know... And the CLuctch disc was changed in 96 right b4 it sat for like 10 years... so the friction plate should be good... so we shall see =D
