What engages the 4 wd? When I shift the floor shifter it engages the drive line, but the front spindles are free spinning. I assume the vacuum line is what makes all this work. However it is missing where does it connect to. Please help I keep reading diagrams but I just don't see it. It looks like it also connects to the transmission.

What you are seeing is most likely the vent line, which connects the trans and front diff to a vent line on the dash. The stick is all mechanical, and related to the transfercase. If your driveshaft is spinning it would seem possible you probably have automatic hubs that aren't operating correctly or are broken.

Yes they are auto hubs. So could it be that they need cleaned and or replaced. Also can I replace with manual hubs?

I know that you can swap them out for manuals, there are writeups around. I have never owned the auto hubs so I can't say if they are serviceable, in either rate, you will have to do some searching on the hardbody forums.

Good luck.
