Stupid name. If the article is true, it should be a 300Z. I'll believe it when I see it. Will probably be another Infiniti knockoff. If they do replace the current model, I hope it has a manual, else they'll lose what respect remains for the Z lineup.

In my experience carthrottle is usually pretty far off base, plus why the hell would Nissan release an AWD Z car to compete with it's flagship? The naming convention isn't a point of contention for me.

Carthrottle is equivalent to that of CR in the United States. So, either way, both are horrible to depend and rely on for information. The 400Z name sounds about right, since the numbers for the Z always increased for some reason per generation.

No it doesn't.

The number designation was in line with the displacement of the engines within the cars. A 400Z designation would only be correct if they stepped up to a 4.0L motor if they wanted to keep the number in line with the history of the car (a wise decision).

There's a nissan ad on youtube with the new Z and it doesn't look like that yellow concept posted above. I don't care for the headlights on it. You all know nissan changed their naming convention so the speculation right now if that it's ca;;ed the 400Z because it'll be 400 HP for the base and maybe 455 HP for the nismo.

It's not great, its not bad, better than the 33 and 34 (obviously IMO). As RicerX said it would be really stupid on Nissan's part to step away from a naming convention which is seeded in heritage.

Even though in Nissan speak a 400Z would imply a 4.0L I think there is fair precedence that when a turbo is added the the model nomenclature can be representative of what NA size the engine would be for that power level..

Both MB and BMW for years had a nomenclature based on NA size of the motor but thenallowed the displacement to be subsituted by the FI effects in the name.

Calling the new Z a 300Z or Z300 for its (widely expected fitment of a) VR30DTT engine would be odd.

Yes a manual is planned as one of the 2 choices. As for the auto tranny it will not be a dual clutch set up to keep the car affordable, but a 7A with paddle shifters.
By all accounts this 7A works well in the Red Sport.
All the other leaks I read said no AWD planned... (thought the corporate Nissan/Infiniti AWD systrem is actually quite good.. adds less weight than competing AWD systems and no one seems to have reliability issue with it of any kind.

I still prefer a MT. Conceptz mated a 370z MT to their Q60 RS so at least we know a MT is possible.

I soo hope they don't call a 3.0 a 400Z, huge mistake if they do. I imagine a lot will get de-badged or re-badged. Call it a 300Z or just a Z. Nissan had no problem calling the completely new Z32 "300ZX' after already using that name for 6 years on it's best selling chassis (Z31). So no shame in dusting off the 300 numbers.

They can call it anything they want. My 1986 300 ZX Turbo only had 200HP not 300HP.
