i know there's a few topic on seatbelt already and maybe i should have put it over there but then i dotn' want to be all the way in the MIDDLE of the thread which many people might just skip it or skim thru it or something.

if someone bought a 4/5 point seatbelt for autocross/drag race but they also wear it during regular street driving. If they have that on on the street do they still have to have the regular seat belt on? or the auto seatbelt on for the s13s.Would they cop give you a ticket for not having a seatbelt on while you have the 4 point on?

that would be a really stupid thing for a cop to do, I doubt they would do it unless you pissed them off. Ask AZHitman, he's a cop I think.

I asked the same question once, Eveyone told me that 'IF its good enough for NHRA racing etc, its good enouhg for DOT' Personaly, i'll ask my inspection shop before i chop out my stock belts.

good enough for NHRA, but they use helmets, roll cages and other things too. if you got rear-ended wearing only a harness, it would be really hard on your neck since your shoulders wouldn't move at all. if you roll with a harness and no roll cage, it very well could kill you, as your head would be the highest thing in the cabin. standard seat belts let you slide around a bit.

Not a cop, correct.

Driftaholic is right. You DO NOT want to use an aftermarket harness as your daily "protection". They are far more restrictive that a standard seat belt, for one. Also, they are designed to save your life, NOT prevent injury. Standard seat belts are designed to do both. They allow deceleration of your body weight in the event of a collision and still allow full mobility and range of motion.

I am pretty certain that a properly-installed (yours is likely NOT) is perfectly legal. Howevr, removal of the factory belts IS NOT , so you're in a Catch-22.

Even loosening the bolts that hold in the stock belts is a bad idea - Thy are "loctite-d" from the factory on purpose.

For racing, you're almost better off just strapping your a$$ into the seat with a couple regular tie-downs (if you must). But wear your seat belt as well.

why dont you just use your stock belts on the street. and use the harness on the track.

4/5pts are desigened to keep you in place during cornering during racing. unless you have a rollcage they can be a liability to crash protection on the street.

i know a few people that have harnesses and they just stash em behind the seat on the street and use their stock 3pt belts. then they pull out the harness when they arrive at the track.

that's the cool thing about s13's, cause you can "put away" the stock seat belt so it won't be flopping everywhere when you're not using it.

You really should use the lap belt, I remember reading somewhere sometime that the shoulder belt is far less effective without it.

Tho I honestly only clip mine when I am doing spirited driving.

without the lap belt, your a$$ would go sliding off the seat and your chin would catch on the shoulder belt, and you could choke or be decapitated. have fun!

Don't chop out the seatbelts, just bolt the four point mounts on top of the stock belts. I came through the gate on base one time with my four point on and the SP said "put on your seatbelt". I pulled the straps foward to show her i had the four point on, she gave me an "you know what I mean" look and said, "the other one". I put the stock belt on and as I went through the gate wondered if I had just created Seven point harnesses.:rolleyes

When I was picking up my engine from Phase2, I got in a conversation with one of the guys there about roll-cages and four point harnesses. He told me that both are illegal here in California. The "logic" on the roll-cage is that it requires "modification of the body" when you bolt the cage into the car. I'm not sure what the deal with the belts was, but he had antidotical <sp?> evidence of being hassled for them.

As for the lap belt, use it. It keeps the bottom half of your body in place.

Well an MP once told me that "rollbars induce racing" I laughed at him and said "they do, mine always whispers "race this chump, do it!" but I say no Mr. rollbar that's not right" Stupid people occasionally amuse rather than annoy me.

Dont even think of buying an aftermarket harness unless you have a roll bar or cage as well.

I am installing a set of Black Rev Sparcos...I have no other choice but to install a 3/4 point seat belt because when I remove the stock leather seats the clip part for the seat belt is attached to the seat. Should I get 3 or 4 point? Any major differences, is it true they are unsafe for street driving?

I use both the shoulder and lap belt every time as well. When I take my S-13 to the track. I also use a G-Force torso harness that clips around the seat back. Makes a big difference. Stock S-13 seats don't have that much lateral support.

yes. I'm too poor to buy nifty seats so all three of my cars that have four points are run on stock seats.
