I swapped the 300zx calipers and a set of SPL lines to my 240 yesterday and now I can't build much pressure with the pedal. I bled all wheels, right rear first, then left rear, right front, and finally left front. The right side went OK during the swap, but I took the left caliper off and forgot to put it back on before I pumped the brakes. I pumped and pumped until the piston came out of the caliper and spilled fluid all over the suspension.

Could I have damaged a seal in the master cylinder or something in the calipers? If so, is it better to rebuild said items or buy new?

1st you should not be bleeding your brakes without having the calipers mounted on the rotors with pads so your pistons don’t pop out. You can pop them out and still have air in the lines. So I would try and reassemble everything GRAVITY BLEED FIRST. Then go through and rebleed everything again if that doesn’t work then you may have some other issues.

Agreed on "not having them off". I forgot that I took the left side off, so it was an oh-crap moment. I'll give them another bleeding this weekend when I have some more time. Thanks for the reply.

FYI Driver's Rear is the first one to do.

Seems like there is air in the line still. Did make sure that all the bleeders are at the top of the caliper?

Hmm.. Us OEM guys always do passenger rear first.

Dammit, now that you say bleeders on the top... There's my problem. They are on the bottom, so I bet my calipers have air in them. Poor mechanic ability strikes again!

Driver's rear is the furthest away from BMC though. Line goes from BMC to Passenger side, then back to the rear, then back across to driver's side.

I was able to swap the calipers this morning and re-bleed all wheels. Everything works great when installed properly. Thanks for the advice biggie.

Also, if you have it, don't forget to bleed the ABS unit..
