I have a 2K Maxima that the Sunroof opens by itself. Locked and no key in the on postion, later it closes by itself. I am not sure if there is a connection with the interrior temp sensor that it is just hexed. Tried the Battery trick, and holding the slide close switch and tilt switch for 5 seconds. No luck, any suggestions???

Check the FSM for a reset procedure. You can find it here: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM

Don't have a specific reset proceedure for resetting the sunroof. I read elsewhere to disconnect the battery, also to hold the tilt for 5 seconds and the slide switch same. didn't work. What is soooo weird s that is is opening and closing on it's own, even with the combo switches disconnected. The motor is receiving the power from other source, I don't have the curcuit diagrams for that set-up. It seems that it might be tied into the interior temp sensor system...?

Sounds like it might be an issue with the Retained Power Operation. http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/maxima/2000.5_Maxima/el.pdf Description and wiring diagrams start on EL-178.

Max is right, stat on EL-178 to get an understanding of the Sunroof Retained Power Operation. For description of Smart Entrance Control Unit, go to EL-310 and for location, go to EL341-342. There could be an obstruction in your sunroof drive mechanism or the sunroof motor-controller (encoder and limit switches) itself is failing.

You don't want to disable the Smart Entrance Control Unit as it controls other components as well as the Nissan Anti Theft System. The Sunroof retained power operation is disabled whenever any of the front door is open so leave one of the door open during diagnostic. With Ignition ON or engine running, open the sunroof and check the track for obstruction. If none, it's likely the motor-controller has gone bad. You can disable the sunroof (once closed) by disconnecting the sunroof motor connector. You can also disable the Retained Power Operation by cutting the wire from Pin 5 of the Smart Entrance Control Unit (not recommended).
