2jz or rb26?

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

lol i know but is it true that with minor mods on a 2jz u can make alot of power, but with a rb26 you have to fork out alot of $$$ to make the same power? :yesnod

If you read on some supra forums, you will find that the 2j is nowhere near being a cheap motor to build. With that said, the RB26 isn't either. If cost is an issue, I highly recommend you stick with the VG30 as there is already plenty of aftermarket support for it. Check out Z1motorsports.net

NP Let us know what you choose to do and make sure you put up a build thread in the appropriate section. ;)

You might want to poke around rbz32.com a site dedicated to that swap. It has been done many times. The 2jz has been done also, but less so. You have clearance issues with the 2jz so need to have a hood bump made.

Both swaps are significant costs ranging in the $6+k range (good enough) to the $15+k range (doing it right). A lot of parts still have to be fabricated and most engines you source will not be in the best shape and thus requiring rebuilds.

Both engines can make great power and have large aftermarket support.

The third option is to twin turbo swap your car. No major modifications have to be made, and despite a normally ~$10k cost, this can get a lot less is you just get yourself a front clip and are willing to do some of the work yourself. The VG30DETT engine is not one to ignore, and I like it simply because so many people underdog it (because it was never featured in a fast and furious movie, I guess...)

I run an RB26 in my S14 but have also owned a 2JZ powered vehicle. I found that the 2J will take a bit more abuse in stock form but parts can be a bit more expensive.

We have taken the wiring guesswork out of the equation for anyone who is contemplating this swap.
