Having trouble finding a 240sx , guy with a rwd corrola I think it is an 86 for a good price. I drove it and was very impressed, not quite as good handling but better visablitiy/driving position. I dont know about these toys though, I would think you would be stuck with the weak power plant. Doesnt have the potential like the 240sx.

If your worried about power get a 4agze or a 4age or a 5v 4age swap Its not like they are "swapless" And im not saying it would be easy...

Yeah, i love he AE86 also, i have also seen one with a 2JZ GTE, or one of those supra engines. Very nice. Whenever i see one on the road, everyone says that they are ugly, but i guess tey just havent learned to respect it. I plan on getting one, painting it black and white, and on the back windshield, i put in big bold print PANDA-moaneeum. Uhhhhh....J/K

the 86 is a nice car if you can find one in good condition. Great weight distribution, lightweight, cheap and a fun car. There are good aftermarket support in japan for it. Some people dont like the looks of it, but i think it grows on you. As far as the powerplant, you can swap in different engines like the 4agze. People even swap in sr20dets in there. Check out club4ag.com for more info.

Ive been researching the Toy and the power plant upgrades are expensive, evidently only the GTS had a good transmission and rear and the supercharged MR2 engine is far from a bolt in. I'm waiting on an S13 one will show up eventually, there are so many possibilities with an S13 How many RWD cars can you run a 4 cylinder turbo or inline 6 turbo without any custom fabrication work. I really think the S14/S14's will be highly highly sought after the next decade, I doubt that they will depreciate probably will be a collectors item one day

Now - the voice of experience talks..;)

I have owned the UK spec AE86 (4AGE) which does 0-60 in 7.8 secs. Faster than a UK spec (S14) 200SX Turbo which is 8.0 secs according to my info. I currently own the US spec 240SX SE

Toyota Thoughts:Great driving position Great for driftingGood on petrol (Gas)Mine did 133mph on a good straight.Practical car with hatchback

Nissan Thoughts:More solid build quality Better handlingUnderpoweredNot very comfortable driving position (I'm 6 feet)Horn/Air bag combo drives me nuts!Fairly impractical car/space etc.

I'd hate to turn this thread into a discussion of japanese numbers, but just fyi, there are some special cases when dealing with 100's (hyaku). 300 is sanbyaku, 600 is roppyaku, 800 is happyaku. Now, on topic... gtd65, you say that the 86 has a better driving position than the s14? Is it just the position/ergonomics/whatever of the seat? Or is it that the interior is more roomy than the s14? I've never been in an 86, so I wouldn't know.

to me the AE86 is better in the looks department because a cop sees it as non threatening its a sleeper, 240sx is a bit of pullover but an AE86 can go by without a cop raising an eybrow

well, fortunately I raced 2 of them on the track in the fall (actually, a lapping event) The cornered very well, and I couldn't shake them, although they never really got close to passing me. OK cars for fun, but ugly little mutha's! I think some people prefer the upright seating position, over the ****pit style of the s14. I personally think the s14 is much more comfy, but I'm not exactly tall. Great cars if you can find one in good shape, otherwse, could be an expensive money pit.

I just find it much more comfortable overall - the 240SX has a very nice interior, however, I don't find it ergonomically suited to my body size/shape/height (200lbs & 6 feet) The interior of the 240 is certainly wider than the Corolla, I think the additional headroom provides for a better seating position perhaps?

I'm not keen on the AE86's with the pop up head lights - they look oh so ugly for sure. U.K. versions had fixed headlights and were only available as a hatchback. The AE86 has dated though for sure, but for a design that is almost 20 years old it is not too bad.

an ae86 would be sweet but u have to find one in good condition as it so old and most the good ones have a loving owner. Would be a great sleeper if thats what u want and u could do a ae101 engine swap in it. but the 240 has easy to find parts if that what ur into. hope that helps

and the corolla is not that nasty its just like the old 200sx.

why would anybody want such trash? you all should know that if you are a drifter and you are not a rice drifter fake then you know that it drains your money easily.when you buy hachi roku you have to usually buy a lot of stuff just to get it to run.and what about having to work on that old rusty suspension? yep people, that is one crappy car.

I agree I think a 318 BMW would be cheaper in the long run, 240sx better than both
