Ok. so this might sound a bit stupid too many. But please understand that my knowledge of cars is only rebuilding standards cars. NOT TUNING! THankx. xD :ohno:

Ok. so i know by experience that there are several things you can swap from other cars into a completely different car. (different brands, engine size, etc) e.g: fuel pumps from a volks to an altima, fuel injectors from a tercel to a uz engine, pistons of a corolla to a mercedes, and so on...

I know there are some turbos, if not many that are completely legal in the USA, also in cali.

For those who are not familiar with Cali laws: you can not have an engine that has not been introduced to the us, nor an engine that fails emission tests. also you can not have a turbo or any mod that can be considered environmentally dangerous. any mod must be approved or must not have a redlight (forgive me if i did not use the right terms, but pretty much cali laws is a BI*ch!) :werd:

BIG QUESTION NOW!

is there anyways to install a turbo from a different engine, or car. For example a turbo from a 300zx, a volks, or a bmw, porsche? and suited up to work with a ka24de and/or ka24e??

just wondering. please do not fire as this is a question coming from a novice.. xD

Nope. Can just put on a turbo and have it be "legal". YOU CAN however swap an engine. Look up engine change over laws for here in CA.

1. The engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle
2. Must retail all smog equipment
3. If the car is a original CA car the engine must be a CA engine (If the car is federal this does not apply)
4. You can not put a truck motor into a car (IE Passenger vehicle)

i c.. so not even a legal turbo ..

now i know that swapping a q35 engine or a vg TT engine into a s13 has been done before, but then the car itself is pretty much changed... -____-...

Technically the turbo itself is not what CARB is worried about. I turbo'd my saturn before I got my 240 and I used a newly rebuilt T3 from a volvo. The issue is with money, plain and simple. Companies like Edelbrock or Banks or others that make turbo kits for cars are able to sell them in cali because they pay out the anus for a little sticker saying that they payed to CARB. It would be nice to drop a turbo on a car and not worry about it but the average joe does not have the money to pay CARB for that sticker. Without the sticker, any smog shop will deem it illegal and not pass you (unless you have a really really good friend). So basically, without the CARB sticker on your car, no turbo is "legal" to put on a KA. However, you can get a turbo from another car such as a volvo and use it if your piecing together your kit but unless you plan to register the car in another state it is futile. Hopefully that helps.

so each car like your volvo has several or 1 carb sticker for the legal turbos. U can no put a volks legal turbo with sticker in a 240sx because that carb sticker does not belong to the 240 but to the volks? hmm.. well.. i guess the best way to go at it is put a vg30 engine or a q engine.. xD
