Well, I've been working pretty hard on the 240 and so has my wallet.
In preparation for this season, I've been doing basic maintenance such as:
- Oil/filter change- Purged stale 101 octane, filled with fresh fuel- Rear diff fluid change- Transmission fluid change- Radiator flush w/ new Water Wetter- Brake fluid flush- Replaced damaged JIC muffler- Fresh plugs for dyno tune/ fresh plugs for first track day- New power steering belt w/ one extra in my toolbox
Mostly just basic crap, but then things got interesting this Friday as my car rolled onto the dyno at Intec Racing (the only Apexi Power FC tuner in WA).
I've recently been aware of what seemed to be an overboost of some sort, and it started after I moved to WA. Unsure of what could be causing this problem (as my car is equipped with dual HKS wastegate actuators, and an HKS EVC VI boost controller), I decided that I wanted to get re-tuned before this season.
As Lawrence (the lead-dude and tuner at Intec Racing) begins the dyno run, he notices that the car is going WAY over my instructed boost limit of 15 psi. After 5,000 rpm, the boost just goes berserk and rises up to 20+ in one second.
He did a great job of paying attention to my requested specs and made sure to let off immediately as soon as he saw the issue.
Of course, the dilemma turns out to be BOOST CREEP. DAMN WA COLD/DENSE AIR!
My straight-pipe to fart-can muffler didn't work out as well as I thought it would. What sucked is that it took us 3-4 hours to figure this out, and I couldn't really test the theory until this (Saturday) morning; I just so happened to leave my muffler-silencer at home. The boost creep theory was easily confirmed as soon as I popped the silencer in, and I was able to hold 14-15 psi.
So, off to the muffler shop. $180 later, I've got an extra "turbo muffler" installed on my system, and I'm back to Intec racing for this season's dyno tune.
Results were GREAT! 351 whp/332 ft. lb. 14.9 psi! Full boost by 3500 rpm.
Safe tune, maintenance almost complete.
All that's left to do is get the suspension tuned, and then mount an Origin GT wing. Then, I'm ready.
Dyno sheet will be scanned and up tomorrow (Sunday).
