Looking around the forums and also vendors and manufacturers, I haven't found a very good source for quiet mufflers.
I have a BRM catback on the car with the long resonator and dual outlet muffler, but with the open cockpit of the truck, it can get quit noisy.
Also, I can't get out of my corvette and climb into the 240 and say it "sounds good"
Anyway, I picked up some mufflers from Summit to do a little muffler shootout. They range from I think $29 to $65... so all pretty cheap.
I made a video with actual sound levels instead of just impressions like I saw with most videos out there. Let me know what you think!
Also, I edited and posted this video from the Titan Pro-4X seat you see under construction around the 30 second mark
I might make a thread about that one too.
Nice! I miss the heck out of my BRM with the long resonator and dual tip magnaflow muffler. The HKS I'm running now sounds pretty darn tame at cruise. Thanks for the objective review on exhaust levels. I'm with you, I really like the growl from the LS3 on the Camaro but I actually think my S14 sounds pretty nice, just not AS nice. Nothing compares to the exhaust on the Cobra though.

I was JUST trying to figure this same thing out the other day. I'm contemplating a much smaller exhaust, then using an electric cutout for when I need to give it the beans. Love the video. I've been looking for something like this for a while and couldn't find anything.

Update!
The car is now silver. I painted it, and then PROMPTLY hit a deer. Fortunately it was laying in the road and not upright, so the paint is more or less ok, but the exhaust took a hit. This bent something and pushed it pretty hard-over within the bumper opening.
Sooo I had to drop the muffler, torch, and bend the hangers. While I was down there, I cut some polished and rolled exhaust tips and welded them on. They are Jones Exhaust part number PPT214SS https://www.summitracing.com/parts/JEX-PPT214SS
The tips seemed to have put the exhaust further outside of the car, and actually quieted the cab down a bit more. I did a decibel check and got about 77 dB, but honestly the majority of the noise is just from wind at that point. I'm quite satisfied with the setup now.
Then using an electric cutout for when I need to give it the beans. Love the video. I've been looking for something like this for a while and couldn't find anything.
Thanks for the kind words.
I actually have an electric cutout that I bought a while back and never used. I'll give it to you if you want to pay shipping. I think its 2.5" piping. I'll check later.
