Couldn't find clear answers with Search.

Is the 1.5L engine turbo water or oil cooled?

Is using "Premium" fuel advisable to control knock? Dealer says knock is normal but I find it annoying and troubling.

Is a cool down period advisable before turning engine off? 30 seconds to 2 minutes?

Is there some kind of recall for the turbo known to be on it's way?

I know this is a lot of questions but I've been saving up. :)

The turbo is water-cooled through the regular cooling loop and the oil goes through the regular engine oil cooler, but the intercooler has its own pump and sub-radiator. That's why there are two coolant reservoirs.

Some knock is normal, especially in very hot ambient conditions. A lot isn't.

The intercooler pump can run after shutdown, but it doesn't hurt to give any turbo a cooldown if you've been pounding on it. Under normal driving circumstances it isn't necessary. Because of stop-start, Nissan took a whole lot of precautions to protect the turbo, most of which are transparent to the driver.

Not that I'm aware of. The only current recall involving the turbo is for the breather hose, and that's purely to prevent foul fuel odors, nothing mechanical.

Water cooled, oil lubed. Got it.

Seems like mine knocks off and on regardless of temp, maybe more when cold? Annoys and concerns me. Thinking I might try premium to see if that helps.

Good to know. Once the warranty runs out (soon but currently less than 15K miles on the odometer) I'll probably do your stop-start bypass procedure.

Did the hose recall so I guess I'm good on recalls.

I really enjoy the car and I want it to last. That's why I'm so annal about the small details. It's my first turbo car and pretty much everything in my price range had a CVT.

Thanks so much for the help!
