So I got in a fender bender and the auxiliary water pump took a direct hit and broke. I’m needing to know if I temporarily bypass the pump can I safely drive about 20 miles? I understand it helps cool the turbo but is it completely necessary for safe operation? Thanks for input.

Probably, but the CAC temperature sensor is mounted near the pump and won't give you any indication of a CAC overheat if the pump is bypassed. So there's no way to monitor the temp, even with a scanner. Drive it like granny and try very hard to stay off the turbo.

Is the turbo cooled by water or oil? I seem to be reading the aux coolant just cools the intercooler and not the actual turbo.

That's correct, but the KR15 has an itty-bitty turbo that runs pretty hot. You don't want downstream heat potentially damaging the Throttle Body, the plumbing, or (heaven forbid) an intake valve. Best to be safe and not make the turbo do unnecessary work.
