I noticed that also and wondered why they are even going to run the hot wire from the battery when they could have picked it op on the prewire. Once again thanks for all the info by the way is the hot connector on the prewire fuse installed at the factory?

I'm sure it's fused but I didn't notice where. I'll find out and post back.

Sorry, computerguy, got your PM but you seem to have yours turned off. I had a crazy week and forgot all about it, I'll look tomorrow.

Very cool, the prewire has a dedicated 30A fuse with nothing else on the circuit. Fuse 86 in the Fuse & Relay Box. It's battery and not ignition, so if you use it for anything besides a brake controller, be careful about key-off power draw.

Thanks, you are a great resource to this forum, that's no different than the way the trailer guys wire it straight from the battery via a fuse. Getting trailer hitch installed Tuesday will tell installer should save some time on the install.

You're most welcome! Heck yes, and a whole lot cleaner and safer than running a live batt+ wire underneath the car!

Hi VStar650CL, thanks for all the info you have posted!

First time poster here - I previously installed a hitch on my 2021 Rogue and am about to buy the Curt 56459 wiring harness my local dealer finally has in stock; I can't find any other options readily available here in Canada.

I'd like to avoid running power from the battery, what is the best way to connect to the prewire you previously showed us? I assume I'll need some sort of connector?

Thanks!

You're most welcome. As mentioned above, the prewire for the righthand turn signal also has battery power from a dedicated fuse in the Fuse & Relay Box. That's the definitely the best option.

In case there is someone as challenged as I was...

At least on my 2021 Rogue (SV), There is a fuse/relay box under the hood on driver side. There is description under the cover of the fuses. There is one that shows 30 trailer. I used a 10amp fuse because I am not controlling any brakes, just a couple of lights. I got a 10amp fuse from the spare fuse section of the fuses located inside cabin, under the steering wheel. There is a fuse puller located in here as well.
