2017 Rogue Key won't turn most of the time

This issue happened all the sudden just this morning. Before then I could start my car every time I turned my key. It's very smooth.

Then I put my key in, tried to turn -- It's stuck. I kept trying for a few times. It was still stuck -- it's feels like a piece of metal is locked inside.

Then I tried another key, it was stuck the first time, but the second time I was able to start the car. When it responded to the turn, it was very easy to turn.

Then I shut off the car and pull the key out. Now I am having issue turning the key every time. I can succeed one time out of 20 tries.

I tried spraying WD40 around the ignition key hole. It didn't seem to help. It feels like something inside of the ignition mechanism is stuck. I have tried turning the key so many times now I feel that the key needs to be some specific spot to make the ignition to turn -- it's like it needs to click something inside.

Does anyone have idea what is going on? Is there a simple fix? Thanks!

You have three possibilities, 1) the keys are worn out, 2) the cylinder is worn out, 3) the interlock cable is stretched or worn out. First, because it's easy, bring your VIN number to the local parts department and have them cut you a dummy key from the factory key-cut code. If that works smoothly then you have worn out keys. If that isn't it, see page TM-200 here about the interlock cable:

Take the cable loose at the shifter end and see if the cylinder works smoothly and the cable isn't binding. If that all looks okay, try adjusting it. If that doesn't help, the cylinder is shot.

FYI, the whole setup is identical '16~'17, so you can use the '16 FSM.
