Hi all,

So my Nissan Rogue 2017 SL came up with the occasional judder, typically when driving more than 30 mins or so. Other than that car still drives good and after having a mechanic look at it, it has the p17fO code stored, with no check engine light. I believe he said it also has a P0841 code.

Car has 32k miles, Nissan won't help to cover any costs and I assume I will require a CVT replacement. Question is, should I drain and fill the transmission fluid and will doing so, possibly have any effect and perhaps it will last a bit longer?

Can the judders be caused by dirty or even low fluid?

Just don't want to waste a few hundred bucks if it won't help. Asked Nissan and they said sure give it a try and a transmission shop said don't bother. Any help would be appreciated.

P17F1 is usually curable with fresh fluid, but P17F0 means severe belt slippage and is a death sentence when accompanied by other codes like P0841. The transmission shop is right and the dealer is wrong. Your transmission has had it. Fresh fluid may help temporarily if you want to try to sell it or trade it in, but it won't last.

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't sell privately but might consider a trade in. So unfortunate, considering the low mileage.

Found a place that can swap out with a used CVT but they can also rebuild. Anyone had any issues with rebuilding a CVT?

There are no issues if they know what they're doing and have the right special tools for shimming the new belt and pulley assembly.

No. They send us to Nissan school for a week long special course on how to do it right. Without specialized knowledge and at least one special tool, your chances are slim and none.
