Does any one know how I can mod my drl lights to stay on all the time? Right now when the turn signals are active the drl turns off.

I believe that is a legal requirement in the US if your DRLs are different than your headlamps. More upscale vehicles have the DRL turn amber and flash as the turn signal, but if you use a different light source for the amber flash then the DRLs have to turn off so oncoming traffic can see the flashing amber lamp.

If it is not a legal requirement, it is a safety feature that would be unwise to over ride IMO.

Thanks for the response, but I don't see how it can be illegal. Having the DRL on while turn signal is active is no difference than a high end auto OEM having HID headlights and turn signals on. But I do respect your comments.

I never said it makes any sense :)

You made me curious though, and my Google-Fu (although weak) cannot find an actual NHTSA ruling on it. I therefore rescind my earlier statement and suspect that they do it to comply with laws in some other country (maybe Canada) and it is just easier for them to stick with one build.

I would be interested in having the DRLs stay on as well when the turn signal is activated, as far as visibility of the turn signal goes with the DRLs staying on I was going to install the VLED Tritons.

I don't think I've seen a vehicle that has separate DRL lights keep them on when the signal is activated. I know the new Cherokee does the same thing as the Rogue.

Turn the low beam on and see what happens.
