Thanks Again for all your time & efforts VStar650CL !!

My situation, senior age, fixed income & health conditions place rather strict limitations upon what I am still able to do.

My current answer to this situation was posted as a wanted ad on CL;
IMO this car is trying to do me in via poor mobility & endless trouble.

I'm unwilling to spend another dime on it - not even for the app & dongle -it has worn me out.

Hopefully there will be an older car in better shape that I can afford & use before the snow is flying here.

Sort of a PS to add clarity here...
The town we live in now is almost an hour's drive to any more populated area.
The roads in between are very sparely populated, unlit with side roads often separated by miles & lots of no-signal areas in which to call for help.
Exactly such a location was where my car stopped moving & just getting it mostly off the travel lane was a matter of pure luck.

Had we not taken 2 cars it might have been a very long, chilly night of sitting someplace without even any way to call AAA for transport.

So...
At this point getting a (somehow) affordable & reliable car is a higher priority than fighting the long way through the '12 Rogue's seemingly endless gremlins.

Worthy of note here IMO - anytime I make a visit here the 'Verify you are human' thing arrives 1st, then when I try to post, sometimes it happens as many as 3 more times, such that if I fail to highlight & copy what I wrote I end up back at square one for no good reason.
(Like it just did right now, again.)

Given the long weekend I had time to spare, so...
Just for yuks I did some searching & found a thread about the cooler idea here:
cvt-auxiliary-cooler-install-t598905.html

Wow.
$200-300+ to make this (possible...) fix + paying someone to install it.
A very poor financial fit for this old guy - 'specially as it seems I was swindled into buying a car with known problems.

That's a very old thread. You can get a 4-port 21606-1XF0A beehive off eBay for under $30 and a very nice Hayden 512 cooler that clips through the radiator for under $40. Add about $10 for a couple of 3/8-to-5/16 barb reducers and the DIY cost with tax is under $95. If you can't DIY it, that's different, but even then it's only a 2~3 hour job for anybody competent.

Thanks Once Again VStar650CL !!
That is very encouraging to see & *IF* the next round of cooler days' testing shows promise, I might even consider that - but with a big 'IF':

IF the DIY effort requires zero time under the car, else the closest trustworthy indie with a lift I know about is a 2 1/2 hour drive to reach, which could be a challenge for car & me both.

IIRC the only thing you might need to crawl underneath for is routing the hoses around the left side of the radiator to reach the beehive. You can snake your hand in through the fans to push the retainers through the radiator and condenser, and they don't need to be pretty or orderly, just so there are at least three of them spaced out enough to make the cooler secure.

Thanks Again & Again VStar650CL.

It is 'sposed to get nicely cooler here soon & hopefully over the next week or so we can do more of the 2 car drives as that distance seems to be a valid test from what I've seen.

Between now & then I'll just use it for shorter errands here in town & watch for any craziness to reappear

I really want more certainty before committing any of our very limited funds to what cannot be known as a definite fix.

Again, my sincere thanks for your time & efforts.

Just a tiny bit to add almost a week later...:
I've used the 2012 for a few short in town errands during cool times & thus far it was OK.

Any more longer trips have been postponed due to urgent needs for working at getting our storage situation straightened out which meant some ladder work & renting a uhaul, etc.

I'll post back more, sometime later as this matter is still a very active concern.

Thanks for reading !!

OK, 'tis been a month & we've made a couple of longer 2-car trips - the most recent on 11/19.

The days have been 40F-ish & the 2012 didn't do its total stoppage thing at all, BUT:
It shifts oddly by its own say-so & given that I need a dependable car to use for provisions trips of an hour each way, this car does not rate as trust worthy to me.

It is time for me to admit that I was swindled indirectly by a used car dealer's remote agent & to move on, accepting the financial loss this entails.

I'll post this recalcitrant car on CL for a fraction of what I paid & hopefully will see the last of it soon.

This has not soured me towards having a Rogue - but it HAS shown me to be much, MUCH more careful in maybe getting another Rogue.

Sincerest Thanks for the efforts in assisting me here.

Went to use it today for a short errand.
It backed up in the driveway ~10 feet & then...nothing.
Tried shifting back & forth - still, nothing.
Coasted it back to park it...for good.
IMO this car is truly a total loss now.

Sounds like a snapped belt or a dead front pump. If you'd opened it up for borescopy per the bulletin, my guess is you would have found serious damage already present.

The most serious damage has been to my bank account !!
(I'm sure the original seller knew it was on its way out...)

There's a lot of that. That's why I always tell people looking at used CVT vehicles to bring along a dongle and a copy of CVTz50. One look at the CVT-A/CVT-B parameters will show up an overheating issue so you know to steer clear. That's especially true for the cooler-less '10A's like your gen1 Rogue.

Please accept my sincerest thanks VStar650CL.

Presently I'm fully adrift as to what car to get next - 'specially as whatever it may be is likely to be my final car ever.
All my time spent as a Saab owner was far less complicated than automotive stuff nowadays as I see it.

@VStar650CL, what is difference between CVT-A and -B? FSM(at least for MY2014) just says "temperature count".

They're two different temperature thresholds, like a minor overheat and a this-is-bad overheat. Nissan's documentation is incredibly sparse for something so important, but if I recall correctly CVT-B is the bad one and it's like 235F. You should see zero for both in a healthy transmission.

luckily for us - our MY2014 shows 0 in both.
p.s. almost forgot - as always - thank you for replying!
