Hi,
I am a long time lurker and now need help. I searched the site and got plenty of knowledge, but need further guidance.

My wife's 2012 Rogue has the air bag light flashing. I ran my scanner and got B1054 - Driver's Side Air Bag Module. I reset it, and it came back the next day. A few days later, I scanned it again and got the B1054 and B1049 - Driver's Side Air Bag Module. I assume one one of the codes is for primary and one for the secondary.

I ordered some 2.2 ohm resistors and plugged them into plugs removed from the air bag. This caused the air bag light to go out. I removed them, and got the two codes back. This is with nothing plugged into the air bag. I re-installed the air bag, reset the code, and the light stayed off for two days. I re-scanned it and got only B1054. Without resetting the code, I re-scanned it again, and both codes are back.

My big question is, do you think this is an air bag issue or a clock spring issue? Everything on the steering wheel controls works. Besides horn, signal lights and wipers, the cruise control and audio buttons all work. The car does not have the phone blue tooth control on the wheel.

Thanks in advance, this is a great site.
Bruce

Those are both open-circuit codes. Because the codes cleared with dummy resistors, it sounds possible that the problem is in the bag connectors and not the spiral cable per se, but that's a moot difference. The connectors are part of the spiral assembly. So either way, you probably have a bad spiral. FYI, the bags themselves almost never go bad.

Thanks for the reply. I was hesitant to blame the clock spring because every accessory / control connected to the steering wheel works fine. I will probably order a clock spring soon. Are they all the same, or do they differ based on steering wheel accessories or controls? Also, where would you order one? I notice that prices are all over the place.
Thanks,
Bruce

There can be some differences depending whether the car has a heated wheel (I don't recall whether that applies to a gen1 Rogue). Go to NissanPartsDeal.com and plug in your VIN, that will get you get you the correct Nissan part number. Then use that number to google for equivalents (RockAuto has a lovely Part Number Search tab).

This is an Update and a Thank you.

Per VStar360CL's advice, I changed the Clock Spring instead of the Air Bag Module. It has been about 2-1/2 weeks and the Air Bag light has never come back on (other than at initial startup). So, no flashing Air Bag Light. In addition, all the steering wheel accessories work fine. The only difficulty was with some of the electrical connectors. Of course they were all slightly different, and some more difficult than others. It took a few hours, but I could do it agin in an hour or so.

I really want to thank VStar360CL for his sound advice. Because of it, I only spent $45 for a Clock Spring on Amazon. If I had followed my initial thoughts, I would have tried the Air Bag Module for about $250. When that didn't fix it, I would have changed the Clock Spring. He saved me $250, plus I would have had an extra Air Bag module to dispose of in some fashion. Thanks again Sir. I appreciate all your help!
