Help!!! Ok group, I have installed an X-pipe, resonator delete, 2.5” piping with competition Magnaflow mufflers… The problem is, it is a bit loud (in my opinion) with plenty of drone! Too much for me..I also have NOT done a tune of any kind..I really wanted an aggressive sound without the drone, and not as loud !! Anyone got any suggestions??!!! I am an older guy with aggressive driving behavior!! What would you suggest to calm it down a bit??

I'd possibly consider changing the mufflers to the Infiniti sport mufflers.

Resonators would probably take away the drone as well.

Thanks Ilya, I thought about just changing the mufflers but I just didn’t want the same results! I know some will call me a little lame, but correct me if I’m wrong..This is not a muscle car, this is sport luxury vehicle that hauls a@&!!

Yes, I have also thought about just adding two high flow resonators and calling it a day…Thanks for your advice! Also best place to get UPRev tune ( later date)??

I installed the Infiniti Sport Mufflers on my M37S and the exhaust sound is just right. They drone a little at 1,500 RPM but it isn't objectionable. Cost is less than stock. Nice Stainless Steel. All other Exhaust Components are stock.

Thanks Guy!! I will have to give an update on this loud, un-tuned, 5.6, high potential M56 S !

BTW, I’m thinking about doing the unthinkable….move those magnaflow competition mufflers as resonators (straight through design) and put my OEM mufflers back on..

Of all the Infiniti's the M's have hands down the WORST throttle mapping out there, and it got even worse when they went from the 4.5 and 3.5 to the 5.6 and 3.7... With the stock setting you are literally never getting the full potential of the engine, regardless if its a 5.6 or 3.7... We can fix this with Uprev; I believe its the all around best "mod" you can do for overall driveability.

One of my co-workers is recommending a peddle commander (not for any particular issue, just an oh you should do this), would that help with sluggish or weird engine response for now, or would it be better to go tune route? Only mod atm is ARK catback; may be doing high flows and some light engine mods mid / late this year.

I highly recommend the tune, but it is more expensive. You do get more benefits than just better throttle response, all around better driving more powerful car, and we can set up map switching so you can have multiple tunes. I like to do a rev and speed limited valet, and a no start security map as a sort of default if you don't have any special requests. There are also other cool features available like rolling anti lag and the burnout mod that allow you to lay down parking lot rubber (if you so choose)

Personally I wouldn't do that. Resonators and mufflers perform different functions. Resonators eliminate the droning by cancelling sound waves that cause the buzzing and humming at certain RPM ranges. Mufflers simply lower the exhaust volume across all RPM ranges. They are designed to work together to give the exhaust note that refined sound.

I had the same exhaust on my M56x as you except I ran the Infiniti Sport mufflers. I'm assuming that your X-pipe incorporated the secondary cat delete like mine. From what I heard the Magnaflow's were a little too raw for my taste, more reserved for Chargers, Camaros, Mustangs, etc. I did have a little drone in certain RPM ranges, mainly when the motor was under load. It didn't bother me so I stayed with that set up.

If the drone bothers you then maybe install resonators first and see if that will mellow the sound out. If not, then swap mufflers.
