Oh nice I emailed u today....if u remember me.....that's the same exact dyno I used and I made 152 to the wheels on 89 octane with low comp. and alot of timing. So good job on yours!!!! I would say u will be one of the only ones because I have been debating E85 or 93 octane and with the bottle on whichever one I go with....I was probably going to go with bc stage 4 cams u have to call about them but they have 280 deg. And also a stock fcw crank with pauter rods and wiseco pistons then all the other stuff with itbs and I'll have to figure out header sit. But that's going to be ages from now in the car world since I'm in college for now

Just out of curiosity, what kind of MPG are you seeing on this beast?

I've not had a chance to take it out of storage yet (just finished up a show, choreographing another, starting a new one next week- damn its busy). I'll give specifics on that as soon as I can. However, the previous iteration (sans stand-alone and custom header), I was able to get just over 30mpg highway and averaged about 24 or so in mixed driving (that's a mix of city, highway, imperfect idling, and tromping on the gas).

Just got back from a weekend trip to IL. She started up with little fuss and never had any real problems. There were a few instances of stumbling (it was a very wet weekend, I wonder if moisture was playing some tricks). Only real problems were the intermittent setting on the windshield wipers becoming irregular, and a droning exhaust note.
Mileage averaging 75-80 mph (no cruise) was 24-25 mpg. driving around town in Minneapolis was roughly the same (lots of highway for those unfamiliar). On the drive home though, I slowed it to 70-75 and was able to get 27-28 mpg, and that still had some fun-driving moments and some stuck-in-traffic moments. I may look into a retune at some point to try to clean things up for more daily-driver type driving and raise the mpgs a bit, but overall she performed well this weekend.
I did get pulled over for loud exhaust but didn't get a ticket. :bigthumb:

Thanks. Unfortunately, I've had virtually no time for video stuff right now. My daily suffered a clutch failure, so I've been driving this car every day. It's been pretty reliable, despite an IACvalve that won't stal plugged in (it stumbles like its driving through water up to @2500rpm). Occasional starter issues too, but she's never left me stranded.
I'll be taking the car down to AMS to get this thing DONE, as in running absolutely-perfect-DONE, at the beginning of August. Just in time to start up production on a new show!.. I should have a few weeks before my time is completely non-existent again though. I'll try to get some video stuff up during that time.

Well, I always thought the KA was stroked enough as it is. Thats a lot of money for a torque curve. Either way, I hope you get the little stuff figured out and back on the road. Repairs are sucky.

For those that wont take a peek they made 153/152... BC stage 1 with cam gears/aem intake/big exhaust/dc header-AEM tune although it only extracted like 5hp......1400$ eh i guess it paves way to further mods HOPEFULLY
I think well see more 200hp ka24de very very soon aftermarket will catch on!
What?! That's all?! I made 154whp / 151 tq with stock cams , stock header at 10:1 afrs!!!
Good job ajax!

I finished my build. Bored .20 over ka24de gasket matched tb to intake, CAI, obx header and cat back. No porting or polish just gasket match.

Anyways got it all in and had to play with base timing a ton to finally get it to run decent? I ran through it a couple times verifed no intake leaks or sensor problems.

Never made it to the dyno but throttle response time was def. better. high rpm power def. made an improvement but low end power suffered very bad! Maybe a nistune or safc would have helped ......but sucked to drive i got fed up with it even depressed got an offer and moved on.

SO I GOT SOME WIESCO 10.5:1 PISTONS FOR 50$ AND A WAY BIGGER BUDGET THIS TIME SO I MIGHT GIVE IT ANOTHER WACK

live and you learn!

Its tough isn't it? I'm having issues myself- #1 cylinder down @ 10% compression, so it runs like crap. I'll have to bring it back to the shop after winter to hopefully solve the issue and get it running 100%.
Good Luck!

Oh ok. I was asking because I remember BigVinnie saying that stock KA injectors max out at 180whp. So if your pumping out more than 180 whp , which k think both of you were then you might have some tuning issues lol. I can't stress it enough - THE BEST UPGRADE FOR A KA ENGINE IS BIGGER INJECTORS AND A BIGGER MAF! Do that first before any mechanical mods.

Well, stock is 270cc- 370 is stock for SR IIRC.

I know this is an old thread and I don't want to rain on your parade but this is NOT the first 200hp na ka24de. Nissan made one back in 1999 for use in a 240z concept car. The car was never released because they felt it was wrong to go from the v6 to a 4cyl. Now only if we can find this car and see what nissan did to make that power can we further improve our own engines! Great build none the less.

I doubt they were using a KA for that concept. Judging by the amount of work that I put into this, I'm guessing Nissan would have simply used the SR. But show me evidence, and I'll believe it.
**edit- my mistake. I googled it. They did use a KA. the difference is my KA is making 200HP at the wheels. That concept was 200hp at the crank. Huge difference. 200bhp is roughly 170-180 at the wheels. That last 20-30 horsepower is the tough (expensive) part.

The other side of that is the KA used in the CORR off-road trucks. Those were putting out somewhere in the range of 300-350, but that was on race gas and using really high compression (13.5:1 IIRC)

On an unrelated note (kinda).......

Ajax, you're one of the big inspirations for my build. Basically, it was you and Greaser who had me wanting to stay on the NA path. Using the info from your builds, I've pieced together what could be considered a "budget" build. WHP is still unknown as I'm waiting for a JWT ECU to show up. That'll be used with the stock intake mani, and I'm fabricating an ITB setup with 'Busa TBs and a Megasquirt to control everything. We'll see how that goes....nothing like standing on the shoulders of giants! ;)

glad to hear. Its a tough engine with little aftermarket support (in comparison). Hopefully you'll avoid some of the pitfalls in my experimentation. Good luck in your efforts!

forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder Greg.
Now just need to figure out step 3:
Step 1: build first 200WHP NA
Step 2: get featured on NICO
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit!

Joined basically just to write Ajax and share a recent mechanic burn/ ka24de opinions.

First off AJAX Props man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And i feel your pain, I just recently had a longtime mechanic burn me. NO 200 whp build for me but Dropped 3600$ down the hole for a full rebuild with bolts on and loppy street cams , but utterly ended up being a horrible ka24de build. Was no inclination he was going to burn me, but even after 4 year relationship of not having issues, when rebuild came, burned.
Was bitter about it too as he had me wait 3 months, and basically glued engine together, slapped in parts......... was seriously seriously seriously seriously considering giving guy a beat down, but he's a wuss and already threatened police action just from me yelling and confronting him.
But its water under the bridge as of now. Be careful of what mechanic you trust, I know, I know. Guess guy was working long con for 4 years? Perfectly fixing everything before then screwing me out 3600$???? Really salty how it went down.....
I could jump him but in the end = jail time.

Heres some thoughts for those looking at ajax here as inspiration. On ka24de. Do it yourself as much as you can. HUGGGGE props on the custom header. But realize ka24de doesn't necessarily command respect out side nissan circles. If your not doing it yourself or with a close friend or reputable shop well versed in ka24de this can be a issue i think. Like I said after a extensive dyno tune I'd been lucky to see 170 rwhp. No ground breaking from me.

My point is piecing together and planning a ka24de build is all fine and dandy but 175-200 whp ka24de take more than inspiration. It takes the right peoples (could be you) to make it happen more than anything imho. You have to sync up with the right peoples and drop benjamins. And its RARE to see legit streetable 180rwhp ka24de. To reach 200rwhp ajax had to stroke the motor. No way we're seeing legit streetable 2.4 hit 200rwhp and be reliable, if at all. Honestly a streetable non race ka24de hit 200rwhp is unicorn status given the weaknesses of the ka24de in N/A form. And AJAX is a god to have gotten there even after the mechanic burn.

As far as more attainable ultimate 4 cylinder N/A i wonder how much a f20c/f22c transplant including used f20c/f22c engine/tranny/stand alone/ bolt ons/custom fabrication/mounts/wiring would set one back. Easy 190-200rwhp in f20c form. Some ap2 f22c hit 230 rwhp with hondata flash crap
Hate s2000 handling though, literally stock ap1/ap2 track times with c5 automatic corvettes. Just think f20c/f22c is remarkable is all. S2000 itself handling waaaay to hype. The s2000cr got spanked by a 2008 cobalt ss vir hot laps.
Anyways!!!!

Major props ajax for hitting unicorn status!!!! Would have loved to have seen even 165rwhp myself. I got major respect for you and i seriously doubt we'll see to many 200rwhp ka24de street driven 240sx. MYTHICAL STATUS for real though, incredible integrity seeing that through. Sorry for long post guys, peace.
