Awesome bud. Lots of work. Maybe one day I will "complete" mine. Whats the paint code on your valve covers?

Agree.

Local biker/powder coat/custom painter had a bunch of powder coated beer cans lined up across the shop. I chose the pretty red one. He said "candy red". That is all I know.

The Greatest Build I've ever read through! Top quality work gmac708.

I'm in the middle of my build (74 260z) and I'm wondering about the work you did on your hood on page 27. I read that you got the hood through beta motorsports but they don't seem to know about that metal reinforcement that you have on yours. Is that something you did? If so would mind answering a couple of questions about that.

1. Did you cut that off of another hood and glue it on
2. What kind of glue/epoxy is that

Thanks any help is greatly appreciated

That gray reinforcement that you can see on the inside of the hood is painted carbon fiber. It looks identical to the metal one on the OEM hood. It was an extra option for the hood sold by Beta. It was already bonded to the hood surface when I got it. They (Beta Motorsports) recommended it for higher speeds. It was internally reinforced in the areas that the hood hinge mounts and latch mounts are located.

Gordan,

It's Collin from Zdayz, I had to look up the thread on this car after you told me about it. It's almost like a step by step manual on how to build you're own RBZ! My dad and I have been undecided between an RB25/6, VQ35, SR20..... But after hearing your car from inside and seeing this build Im not sure its possible that we can go any other way than the RB. (Most likely a 25 though.) I will definetly refer to this thread during our build and hopefully we can do as good of a job on our budget and skill level,
I do have one question, earlier in this thread you had to had a custom oil pan fabricated due to the awd system in the 26 not able to be used in car. Since we will most likely use a RWD RB25 do we still need to find a new oil pan...for other reasons?
Thanks for all your help, hope to stay in touch! :dblthumb:

Hi Collin :wavey:

Its true that I needed an oil pan because my original had a transfer case built into it, but... Your RB will need a new one too because yours will most likely have the sump located on the front of the oil pan and it will not physically fit in the S30 with the location of the cross member/engine mount. The only RB engine that had the sump on the back or rear of the engine was the Z31 200ZR Fairlady Z with the RB20DET. The oil pan for that setup was p/n 11110-20P00 and oil pickup p/n 15050-20P03. They did not have a big production on that and those oil pans are hard to find and expensive. If you can find one, new or used, it will fit RB/20/25/26.
I looked for this part for about a year and finally gave up. You might have better luck than me. They show up every once and a while. I asked Rob at Rips racing if he would be interested in a limited production and he made several for a very small group. Mac at McKinney started producing the oil pan shortly after. You need to check out the RB boards to see if anybody has new or used available. I have nothing but good things to say about Rob or Mac. Hope this helps.

And... we love pictures and build threads at NICO :dblthumb:

Do you have any low pics of the rear of your car so i can see the fuel cell depth? Like as if you were just walking around and looking at it.

gmac708 - Interesting 240Z build. By chance, do you still have the surfboard? If so, I would be interested in purchasing it from you. 70sEra

Do you mind if I contact you at your OH office regarding the surfboard? Or, if you could send me a PM.
Just about to pickup a '70 240Z project in trade for my 73 240.
