A quick little update.

Betzy had her first coat of primer put on this week. This coat gets mostly sanded back off. It pretty well made most of the repairs invisible. Good job by the body man Jim. :dblthumb:

We still have a long way to go. This is taking a lot more time than I thought it would. Not a good time to rush.
Ordering paint this week.

I am sure I will have it drivable by June. It will take a while to get it finished. Last fall was a b**** without the defogger or heat.

That is about right. No sand with the pearl, just the clear gets sanded. That is what I'm told. We still need to paint the bottom with undercoating stuff, and paint the interior. All in should be below $6k easy.

We should have it painted white by the end of this weekend...

So white then? Is that the cat out of the bag? Or is white just the base layer. Do we get to know the final color yet, or did I just miss it.

Pearl eh? I like that.

Super White would be sweet, but I thought you were leaning towards color? Maybe basecoat then... :gotme

The white is going to be the base coat. Pure white car and start to build the color on top of that. The white will be a semi-gloss or a kind of satin finish that will show any imperfections. Fix what we can see in the white. Then we go for the color!

I called Mac at McKinny and he shipped me a free set of the newer ones. :bigthumb: He said they had some troubles with a vendor a while back and I needed the newer ones. The older yellow ones should be exchanged out for the newer red ones.

And....The bumper. Advanced Plating quoted me over $1K to repair and refurb my old front bumper. I asked them to send it back. More on the bumper at a later time.

I have a whole box of parts for the RB that I am going to start on a little oil leak tomorrow.

I found the same thing on my turbo side mount today. And i have the same leak at the head you do... We must have twin S30s

The head gasket thing is really weird. I wonder what causes it to do that. I figured it was not torqued properly or something during assembly.

A little update.
We are finally finished with the primer. I cannot tell you how much more work we discovered once we got everything assembled and primed up with a coat of satin primer. It was another two weeks before Jim was satisfied with everything being straight. The doors match perfect. It took a couple more weeks but is well worth the extra time and effort...

The good news is that we start painting orange this week :woot:

I am going to have to make another road trip for work. I will be gone for about a week. I will update as soon as I am back in town.

Since this is your first project I would suggest getting one that is running and has as little rust as you can afford. Start out by trying to get it running as perfect as you can, then go for some simple upgrades at first.

...and don' forget to post pictures and share your build with us.

Wow, truly epic build. It's funny how many people in aviation are Z car lovers. I am a flight medic with the 82nd. When I return to the sates from Afghanistan, this will be my guide for my RB25DET 240Z. Thanks Gord for making such an in-depth build. I can't wait to see the finished color.

I'm glad I can help you out, and thank you for your service to our country.

And a little update. Interior starting to get painted. First coat in white, then orange, next is clear.

Hi Gordon, this is Jimmy who is new to the forum; i just wanted to stop by and say hi to you as i admire what you have done!!!
I accidentally found this build while i was searching information of a 930 Porsche for my friend; and i just could not stop reading your posts from the very 1st page till today. I believe this is one of the best samples to show people how much fun it is when you dedicate on something you love.
I really appreciate your effort posting all the details with pictures; thank you for willing to share everything with readers here.

Jimmy.H from Taiwan.

Welcome to NICO Jimmy :wavey: I am not quite sure how you ended up in a classic Z section of NICO searching for 930 stuff, but I'm glad you found something you enjoyed reading. It don't think I could have done it any other way. :bigthumb:
